Michael Jordan Press Conference

OK...SO I'm sitting here watching this press conference...listening to the Qs...Listening to the As....

You know...In a way, you really got to stop and think...MJ just bought a team with a 150Mil debt...

They are breaking history this year with every win from here on out.  MJ has just bought a team going to the playoffs(that's right...we're going and I'm going to set some tax refund aside to go to a playoff game...hell or high water)

At any rate...What he has done...he has bought something that he has a bunch to live up to.  He has a team that everyone is going to expect to only go up from here.  We have improved vastly from last year.  This year has been a rocky one, but for the most part, I think we have a solid team that will only be better next year.  With everyone healthy and the rookies that will be better next year, I would say that next year we will be a top 4 seed in the playoffs.

Certain personnel will have to be here next year, and I think you'll see that happen.  I honestly believe that we will be into the second round AT LEAST.  perhaps further...

Everyone has a high expectation of MJ and what happens with this team.  Listening to him talk makes me want to go to every game.  I believe in what he is saying.  I can feel the excitement that I felt back when the Hornets were our marquee team.  I can feel it.  I hope all of our old Hornets fans can get over themselves and embrace this team...our team...our Bobcats.

I got faith.  I got more than most may have.  I know I'll write and complain...but...I'm telling you now...if I got a call today to come work for the Bobcats...I'm there.  I believe in this team, I believe in the franchise, and I'd put my faith and my family into working for them if a job came about.  Do I nee a job?  No.  I've been at my current one for almost 15 years and it isn't a bad one at all.  I just want everyone to understand and share the passion I have for this team, and the faith that we all need to give to Michael Jordan and this team.

Come on everyone!  Let's go Bobcats!  Put this team on your shoulders and show them that we love them

WE LOVE THEM!!!

I LOVE THEM....

Come on Charlotte MAKE SOME NOISE!!!!

Let's Hear theat GROWL!!!!

It seems thousands of new patrons have arrived

they all want to change the name of the grape kool aid to some fruity drink name. I say they need to just get over themselves and drink the kool aid because the real kool aid lovers would HATE to see the drink change names.

Lemonade was a popular drink and it still is.

Lol, yeah.

I’m loving every minute of it. I was just getting my drivers license the last year the Hornets was here, and couldn’t really go to the games like I wanted to. I feel like people in Charlotte felt like they took the playoff caliber Hornets for granted and now are looking for the Bobcats to be that replacement. The game against Oklahoma City was absolutely ROCKIN!!! I mean, who would’ve thought, last year, a game of the Bobcats against the Thunder would be so hyped up? Like I was telling Procton, MJ isn’t going to sit on his ass and let this team continue to lose money. He’s now the head of a product that has the talent to be very successful. I’m excited to see what we can do in the playoffs, and if we are able to make the moves that need to be made over the off season to put us ahead of everyone else. Hell, if LeBron wants to honor him by not wearing his number, why not honor him by playing for his franchise?

Meh. I don't believe it.

This team is just like the Charlotte Hornets. They’ll only climb so high just to let us down in the end. The hill is too tall, the journey too hard. We’ll never make the playoffs, and eventually the team will be moved out of here because….let’s be honest….Charlotte sucks.

….No I’m just kidding ladies and gentlemen. This is it. The Bobcats are going to have the first winning record in their short history in the Carolinas! We’re going to the playoffs, and we’re going to play spoilers and be the thorn in Kobe Bryant’s side to deny him a repeated championship.

It will be very awesome.

I wouldn't mind the Bobcats being like the Hornets

During the final two seasons in Charlotte, the Hornets had a legitimate shot at winning the East. A Jamaal Mashburn injury one year and illness the next doomed us in the playoffs.

The Bobcats will NEVER be like the Hornets - I hope!

The comparison’s are unavoidable I suppose, but I’d much rather give this team the freedom to find its own identity.

While in Charlotte, the Hornets became known for several things:

1. SHockingly good attendance, especially in the first 5 years. I have a love/hate relationship with that idea. I like being able to get tickets day-of-game and paying a reasonable price to get them, but I also want the team to succeed and become profitable.

2. Trying to keep draft picks limited to the ACC wherever reasonable. No thanks. It looks good on paper, but it doesn’t always serve the best interests of the team. If we’re going to be pro league contenders, we can’t rely on the “local boy makes good” story too much. We already have the best example of that story as our owner anyway.

3. Scandals. I think we’ll all agree on not wanting to relive any of that!

4. Creating excellent ballers and then selling them to the highest bidder. Let’s face it, Schinn turned the Hornets into nothing more than a farm club for other teams. When players like Larry Johnson and ’Zo are used as trade bait instead of franchise players, how much faith can we really have in the future of the team?

Let’s let the Bobcats be the Bobcats. Let’s keep the name they were born with, show some faith in the direction the team is now moving in, and support them through the slumps as enthusiastically as we cheer them through the victories.

For me, this is MY team. The rest of the league can’t hold a candle to the Charlotte Bobcats – even with their bumps, bruises, and warts.

Analyzing the Comparison

1. I wouldn’t mind sell out crowds for the Bobcats. Currently the price of the Bobcats’s best seats are too high. This is why center court often has patches of open seats even when the arena has a good crowd..

2. Hornets picked one from the ACC = J.R. Reid. This move was criticized at the time. I agree that we should pick the best player and not lean towards local. Although if we had any chance to get Steph Curry, I could see attendance increase.

3. Hornet’s scandals = Shinn, Coleman, Mason. Any others? These may have scared the wine & cheese fans away, but they were really nothing. Phills death wasn’t a scandal, but had impact. I guess holding an arena referendum was a scandal. Later when Woolridge and Shinn played hardball and moved the team was also a scandal.

4. I disagree with the Hornets being a farm club. Bob Bass was a genius. I didn’t like losing Mourning or Johnson, but I was thrilled to get Rice and Mason in return. There are many other examples of getting packages of quality players for players who were going to leave. Each of the last 10 seasons in Charlotte, the Hornets were .500 or better. Over their final six years, they had one of the best records in the NBA.

Certainly the Bobcats are different, but some forget or take for granted how good the Hornets were during their final years in Charlotte. Personally I would like the Bobcats to be like the Hornets in some ways.
