Would You Trade D.J. Augustin for Glen Davis?

Following up on the True Hoop post about trading D.J. Augustin for Glen Davis, Celtics Blog has a poll up, and over 50% of their readers are voting Yes to the trade. I've made my feelings about Augustin pretty clear over the months,  and I still believe he can be a solid, young, cost-controlled, point guard for years to come.

However, I'm also pretty sure Larry Brown would rather have Kevin Ollie than D.J. Augustin, and running with Flip or another veteran pickup as the main backup PG might be worth the upgrade in the front court, in his mind. (Acie Law is not anyone's answer.)

Furthermore, after the season, looking to what lies ahead, I can talk myself into Big Baby as the starting PF, whether Boris Diaw takes a bench role or he's traded for a PG. Kirk Hinrich, anyone?

In any event, what say you? Would you trade Augustin for Davis right now?

I'm not so sure about this poll

I think a good number of Celtics fans are voting in the poll, inflating the numbers for the yes choice. This would be fine for other polls, but this poll should be for RoF readers.

Lemonade was a popular drink and it still is.

true

Are there even this many Bobcats fans? Let alone, those who read this blog. There certainly are not this many who post here; one must assume that anyone who reads this blog regularly will at some point post something and there’s no way there is anything remotely approaching the number of votes in this poll.

Which makes one wonder: 1) Are there Bobcats fans who like this trade so much they’d vote multiple times? Doubtful. Certainly a case can be made for it but I don’t think anyone is all that excited about the prospect to pad the vote like this— my guess is many fans would agree with the post below about better value somewhere else; 2) Are Celtics fans so eager to get rid of Davis they’re bombing a Bobcats fan site to promote the idea? Possibly; 3) If so, do they think our front office really cares about a fan poll on a blog? 4) Or even better— would the Celtics front office bomb a Bobcats fan poll?

WHY????

This is a bad trade. Glen davis is another Sean May. We dont have time and money to waste on this guy who might get lucky and have a game. I understand DJ is on the block we can get better value somewhere else. What happened to Thompson? We are so close we cant handle a downgrade!

Thompson is a pipe dream

I don’t like big baby either. He is a decent player who fills a need. I think we can do better though

I dont think DJ for Big Baby is a downgrade at all.

I doubt it materializes, but Big Baby is a skilled big body (hardly Sean May). While DJ is an undersized PG who is too small to be anything more than an Aaron Brooks type player.

We want 'Sheed!!!!

U can keep big baby. We will give u DJ for sheed. He would be a great fit on this team. Jax and Sheed?! We have swagger.

here's the best i could do...

I doubt ’Sheed is even on the market, but the below trade scenario kind of makes sense – especially if Boston is truly interested in acquiring DJ.

http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.php?tradeid=5446371

Boston gets: DJ Augustin & Boris Diaw
Charlotte gets: Rasheed Wallace, Glen Davis & Eddie House

This trade could potentially make BOTH teams better.

Absolutely not

Have you seen him play this year? He’s completely out of shape, utterly disinterested, and LAZY! He doesn’t play defense and just floats around the perimiter jacking up 3’s at around 30%. If Paul Pierce, KG, Ray Allen, and Doc Rivers can’t motivate him, what would he do in Charlotte?

Also, Jack has been on his best behavior. But he has the potential to be a mess. It’s all about his company. San Antonio: no distractions, great team player. Indiana: Ron Artest and Jamaal Tinsley get in constant trouble with him. Golden State: Baron Davis shows him the high life and there are no off the court problems (except the trade demand, but wouldn’t you do the same thing?). Sheed + Jack = Jail-Blazers 2.0?

No.

Kirk Heinrich?

No thanks. Not for Boris! Maybe DeSagana?

If you're a bobcats fan you HAVE to like this trade:

http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.php?tradeid=5446317

Boston gets: DJ Augustin
Charlotte gets: Glen Davis, Sheldon Williams

What’s not to like?

I am for this trade because Augustin has been so iffy this season and because murray can play backup point. I love Augustin but if we keep him, we’re prob gonna have to pay him more than hes worth.

Also, its inevitable that our team becomes less badass by adding a “big baby” to the team. The law of badassness states that if your team is filled with too many badasses, you must make a trade to level out this badassness for the fans/opponents safety. The league isnt ready for wallace/jackson/murray/felton/brown raw and uncut yet. Who do you think makes him cry first? Wallace or Jackson? All this being said, im still for the trade because we are in desperate need of help at the four. I just wish there was someone else.

Also, isnt it ironic that last year, after we beat the Celtics, Augustin talked some smack and called the Celtics bullies? Now, theres a good chance he will play with all of them. I hate that for Augustin. He deserves better than those teammates. I think Augustin is a standup guy though and wont let all the other Celtic players arrogance rub off on him.

trading PG for big man...

It always seems like a good idea in this league. If we do trade for a PF, we absolutely have to trade boris simultaneously, or else we let the entire league know we don’t want boris and are locked into his contract until we do something. I would look for something with sacto (boris for nocioni is extremely likely. They need someone who can pass pretty well, a la what we needed when we origially traded for boris). I could also see something huge with philly, like diop, derrick brown, and diaw for brand (this makes us take on about 30 mil in salary over two years, but seriously, I wouldn’t mind that for spare parts)
Now here is what I like about this trade and I’m surprised everyone on this message board is ignoring this:
Henderson will get more playing time. He’ll be in the second lineup (graham, murray, henderson, diaw/player X, chandler/mohammed). I have no problem grooming him in the second lineup.

by Jew Unit on Feb 10, 2010 4:46 PM EST reply actions

I still doubt Hendo recieves more playing time

LB will still use Graham over him. Also, If we have Diaw and Big Baby, I think Derr-Devil would get some minutes at the three, clogging the wing position up just as much.
