Gameday Preview Charlotte Bobcats at Los Angeles Clippers

Pump Up Music: Men and Whales -- "Long Story Short"

The Big Picture: So begins the second leg of the Bobcats' brutal stretch of road games, with a 10:30pm start time in Los Angeles against the Clippers. They'll work their way back east this week, with games against Utah on Wednesday and Memphis on Friday. While the Clips are probably the least of the teams they're going to face until they play the Warriors in a couple weeks, they certainly have talent and can't be overlooked.

Star-divide

First, Chris Kaman is the kind of guy who will give Nazr Mohammed a lot of trouble. We'll see plenty of Theo Ratliff, which can go either way, depending on how embarrassing he is on offense. Also, if D.J. Augustin finds himself guarding Baron Davis, that could go very badly, as Baron has no problem playing with his back to the basket, and he's a big enough guy to give shooting guards problems, let alone D.J. Baron might not play due to injury, but it's definitely worth noting.

Thankfully, we've got a big advantage on the wings, where Stephen Jackson and Gerald Wallace have a physical advantage over Eric Gordon, Travis Outlaw is questionable with a foot injury, and Rasual Butler isn't exactly imposing. If they go bigger with Craig Smith, that could be interesting, since he can muscle around Crash 'n Jax.

Key to Victory: Stop Kaman from doing his thing. Baron won't be himself coming off injury, so that's probably Charlotte's weakest spot.

Detail That Should Interest More Than .08% of You: Donald Sterling, Clippers owner, is a notorious slumlord.

Two years ago this game would have been on the NBA's worst of the night list.

Now it may been on the best of the night list.

I'm watching the Bulls play against the Wizards

Flip is playing a lot so far and he still isn’t shy about taking a shot early in a possession. He has also dropped the head band he wore in Charlotte. I guess Bonnell was wrong about the Bulls wanting Flip because of his relatively low expiring contract. Flip has essentially replaced Pargo as the first guard off the bench.

If I move to LA

I’ll be a Clippers fan (BOBCATS, numba 1 though, 4ever!). I tend to shy away from overtly dominant teams like the Lakers. I’d rather be a fan of a struggling team that slowly builds itself up to compete and succeed (now, to what extent the Clippers have/been able to do that is obviously debatable..or perhaps not so much in this particular case, lol). Much more rewarding that way to me, as a fan. And I don’t have to deal with idiotic bandwagon fans.

First time poster, long-time Tyrus fan

HEY-O!!!! I’m new to the blog. I realize a game thread isn’t the appropriate forum for introductions, so I’ll try and keep this short….

I’m a HUGE Bulls fan –have been my whole life. Though I find it increasingly difficult to invest myself in the franchise due to the gross incompetence of coaching/management. Until Gar Forman, John Paxson, and Vinny Del Negro are replaced, I have to actively root against them.

I’m probably one of the biggest Tyrus fans out there, and his arrival in Charlotte makes me a de facto Bobcats fan.

I’m glad to see TT w an organization that actually wants him (T^2 has been jerked around more than any other athlete in the history of the world). I think that his potential could very well be realized in Charlotte. The caliber of tutelage that LB can offer has been severely lacking in Tyrus’ short career.

I hope I can make positive contributions to your guys blog in the times to come. I’m thinking about cooking up a little Tyrus post in the next few days; hopefully, I can offer some valuable insights.

Welcome aboard.

After Thomas’ first game in Charlotte Saturday, he was interviewed by our tv crew. He said that Coach Brown had already gotten on his case but, unlike when he was in Chicago, he was put right back in the game to learn how to correct it. He said in Chicago he’d have been stuck on the bench. I think he’s gonna like it here. We’re certainly giving him a warm welcome.

by Ourdaywillcome on Feb 23, 2010 12:27 AM EST up reply actions

That was one of the big issues in Chicago. TT never really knew his role, as changed, regularly, without anyone informing him. VDN would posit contradictory statements about Tyrus’ role to the media (I can show you factual examples of this). Also, Tyrus was seldom given in-game instruction, and was NEVER, EVER given positive feedback. If he did something that was deemed unsatisfactory, he’d be yanked, scolded, and sent to the end of the bench.

There is absolutely no excuse for this.

Yeah, the officiating stunk, but every time we got the lead the Cats started throwing down ridiculous perimeter shots instead of penetrating the paint.

Jackson’s wildcat shooting has won us some before, but tonight it cost us this game.

by Ourdaywillcome on Feb 23, 2010 1:10 AM EST reply actions

right.

When you’ve got the lead on the road (which the Bobcats seldom do) you gotta slow it down, work the ball, and try and get something high % in the paint. Not have ice cold Jax chuck 3’s early in the shot clock. It shouldn’t be that difficult, esp against the fucking clippers.

I guess this team really does live and die by Jackson’s shooting.

Is LB afraid of him, or does he just not care? Cuz that was a coaching meltdown that only shitty coaches fall victim to…
