Kinda surprised with the ratliff trade,

though we only give up a 2nd round pick. Not to bad i guess.

Anyone else surprised on the draft picks that the FO has been throwing around? Its almost like they know they cant draft or judge young talent.

I'd rather make a solid trade

than have another Adam Morrison. Or, cough Sean May. Personally, I’m happy with what we’’ve done. DJ and Raymond on the floor together is a good thing. It was last year, and it’ll be better this year because of Tyrus. I’m stoked.

Not even a certain 2nd-rounder.

It’s conditional. That probably means, then, that the Spurs just were willing to give him to us to save some money since they rarely play him. The last even halfway decent game he had was back in October.

Also, they know they’re poor evaluators, and they know these kids will get no run in their wet dream that Brown stays around for another five years.

About the first rounder

It’s top 10 protected. And not that diminishing protection like the pick the Nuggets are getting, full top 10 protection. Can’t trade 2 years in a row so, assuming the Nuggs get our pick this year (which they should), we still get the 2011 pick. By then the team can be completely different, we can stink again, tank, get a top 10 2011 pick so they don’t get it until 2012… Basically, this isn’t as bad as we think.

2012 pick

Hard to predict where we will finish in 2012. If anything like this year, we would be giving up the 20th pick in the draft, which usually doesn’t amount to much.

Yes...

To have traded another 1st, we’d have had to guarantee the Nuggets ours for this coming draft.

Did we sign Theo before the Diop trade fell through?

We were trying to dump a Center on the Pacers.

Did we sign Theo thinking one of our centers would be moving to IN? Or did we need someone to guard Shaq on Friday with all 4 Centers injured?

My thinking on the matter

It’s a conditional 2nd round pick to San Antonio… right?

So, my thought is that the condition is if he remains with the team for longer than 10 days. Essentially a 10 day contract, if we buy him out before 10 days are up we owe San Antonio nothing (they just saved some cash) and if we decide to keep him for the remainder of the season our 2nd rounder goes to the Spurs.

There’s no source on this… just pure conjecture on my part.

That would be a very weird condition.

I can’t imagine Brown’d be eager to cut him so quickly, and Woj of Y! Sports said the likelihood of the Spurs seeing that pick were slim.

It’s predicated on the notion that Ratliff is just a bridge while Nazr, Chandler and Diop are back to playing condition.

Personally, he’s cheap and you need an enforcer in the playoffs… one who can clear the paint. Chandler could be that guy, but he’s more valuable (only slightly) than his six fouls.

Conditional Pick

If SA’s motivation in this is just to let Charlotte pick up the tab on Ratliff, then the conditions could easily be structured so they never come to pass. Think 2nd round pick Top 25 protected with no compensation if the pick isn’t transferred this year. That could well be the case since SA is over the luxury tax so dropping Ratliff saves his salary and the tax. The Clippers did this several times last season to help other teams get under the cap.

We didn't sign him.

We traded for him.

Thoughts

1) Traded for Theo, because all of our guys are injured, he’ll probably play limited minutes until Diop comes back, then be inactive. (He is a good veteran “role model”)

2) Tyson Chandler’s contract up after year. Tyrus Thomas isn’t. I think we hammer out an extension, and maker Tyrus Thomas our new center. He’ll share time with Nazr once he’s healthy. ( I hope we don’t just play Chandler because he’s making 10 Million +, if he’s not as good as Thomas or Mohammad sit him.

3) The 2nd Round pick to San Antonio is for 2016!!!!!!!!

Chandler contract...

one year left on his contract after this season at $12.6 million.

2nd round picks rarely pan out anyway.
Derek Brown is the exception, but will he play anymore this season?

chandler will finally be

worth something come next year! big expiring contract to get rid of.

But CHandler has to pass a physical.

I think they only way he passed the one that brought him to the Bobcats is because MJ took him to a veterinarian that owed money to the mob.

Slash they didn't care if he was healthy or not because it "saved them money."

Outside of the fact that he’s more expensive than Okafor. This’d sure be a dangerous team with a real post threat.

He's going to be a mighty juicy option

for someone looking to free cap space next season. The problem is, even though it’s the last year of his contract, it’s a player option year. Unless I’m mistaken that means he can refuse any trade he doesn’t like. I fear we’re stuck with him until the contract expires next year. After that he’s not going to be be able to get a job in the NBA as a beer vendor, let alone a starting center. I don’t see many teams foolish enough to pay above the league minimum for a man who spends more time injured than not and has proven unable to learn how to play 5 consecutive minutes without picking up a pair of fouls.

I dunno, man...

Guys like Shaq and Dwight Howard are gonna destroy a lineup that has Thomas or Diaw at the 5.
