Power Forwards The Bobcats Could Be Targeting Around The League

(DA: From the FanPosts)

Larry Brown's Bobcats are trying to desperately acquire a backup to Diaw, but who is out there to help?

The Bobcats really don't have much room to make a huge improvement (Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire), but the Bobcats have a realistic shot at acquiring the power fowards on the list.

Ryan Gomes - Dependable forward out of Minnesota. Team is in rebuilding mode, so they will probably want to move him evenutally. Maybe Bobs take a look.

Al Harrington - Rumored to be in Mike D'antoni's doghouse. Knicks are willing to move him, but probably won't seek anything other than expiring contracts in return.

Andray Blatche - Reportedly was offered in exchange for D.J. Augustin. Bobcats turned that down quick.

Antonio McDyess - Larry Brown favorite. Unsure if Spurs are willing to move him, but things haven't gone as planned so far in San Antonio.

Drew Gooden - Would be a very solid rebounder for Charlotte. Reportedly flirted with signing with the Bobcats this off season before deciding to head back to Dallas.

Star-divide

Tyrus Thomas - The Bobcats have reportedly offered Ronald Murray, Acie Law, and a 1st round pick in exchange for the Bulls forward out of LSU.

Jason Thompson - Rumor floated around about a trade a few weeks ago, but he is viewed as a big part of Sacramento's future.

Brandon Bass - Like Drew Gooden, was on the Bobcats radar this off season before deciding to sign with the Magic. He's been upset about playing time though, and may be moved before the deadline.

Rasheed Wallace - Would be a great UNC reunion in Charlotte. Ainge has rejected the idea of trading Wallace in the past few days though.

Glen "Big Baby" Davis - Reportedly was headed to Charlotte in exchange for D.J. Augustin. The deal must have fell through, because Ainge has denied it.

Luis Scola - Probably not really on the trade block from the Rockets, but is on a manageable salary and should at least be looked at.

Carl Landry - The same as Scola, probably not being shopped, but would fill the Bobcats need very well.

Udonis Haslem - Chad Ford was floating a theoretical trade around on ESPN the other day in which the Bobcats landed Haslem and Dequan Cook, but we had to give up a bit too much.

Elton Brand - One of the more untradeable contracts in the NBA, Elton Brand can still get the job done. He's just not worth the money, at all.

Antawn Jamison - Charlotte native, UNC Tar Heel, Washington Wizards fire sale, what more am I missing?

Anthony Randolph - Athletic young forward from the Warriors, probably out for the year and won't be dealt this year.

Michael Beasley - Has been mentioned in every possible Miami trade rumor, but I really don't see the talented youngster landing on the Bobcats. I think him and Larry would clash on a daily basis.

Nick Collison - Good hustle player who could probably provide the spark the Bobcats need.

Ronny Turiaf - Another energy player out of the western conference who could run around and make plays when the Bobcats look lethargic, which happens at one point in almost every game.

David Anderson - Another young Rockets forward who could probably help the Bobcats. Not as untradeable as the first two.

Matt Bonner - Forward out of San Antonio who can stretch the floor and provide a little rebounding.

Jordan Hill - The Knicks are in love with D.J., and Larry needs a PF. Could maybe become a reality.

Kurt Thomas - Being shopped around the league for a 2nd round pick. Bobcats should make a move.

Jared Jeffries - Horrendous contract for his minimal offensive ability, but I could really see him flourishing in Charlotte.

Kenny Thomas - Sitting on the bench in Sacramento for the past couple of seasons, he has an expiring contract and will probably be bought out after the deadline. Is a favorite of Larry.

Is it true about Andray Blatche?

It was a made up trade by guys in a contest RoF held, but is it true that DJ for Blatche was offered? I would accept that in heartbeat

Lemonade was a popular drink and it still is.

Yes

It’s been reported that Washington offered Blatche for D.J., but we want a lot more in return.

by Charlotte Bobcat on Feb 14, 2010 7:59 PM EST reply actions

yea that's kinda

a piss poor trade. i mean yea DJ hasn’t done much but for Blatche? Big Baby…yea. But Blatche?

He's shown flashes of potential

but he’s really considered more of a project than anything. D.J. has shown teams around the league that he could probably be a superstar one day.

by Charlotte Bobcat on Feb 14, 2010 8:09 PM EST up reply actions

Probably a superstar is a stretch for D.J.

But he can be a starting P.G. one day.

Blatche has a ton of talent and size, but not sure he really has his head in the game. I usually try not to judge guys on their off court behavior, but a story came about a couple years ago about Blatche sleeping in the Wizards arena because he couldn’t pay his rent. That’s just silly.

When Blatsche for DJ was proposed on this site,

Washington fans thought it was ridiculous. No way they want to trade Blatsche for DJ. Blatsche is young with a reasonable contract, and they aren’t likely going to trade him unless it’s part of a larger trade.

Yeah, I know

That’s really not a fair deal for Charlotte in a straight up trade. There would have to be more pieces involved for me to bite.

by Charlotte Bobcat on Feb 14, 2010 8:04 PM EST reply actions

I believe GM's around

the league share my sentiment on D.J., that he’s playing poorly because he’s a young PG playing for a Larry Brown team. I believe he would flourish in a free flowing offense like NY or Phoenix, but I’m glad he’s on our team.

by Charlotte Bobcat on Feb 14, 2010 8:21 PM EST up reply actions

D.J. played under the same coach last year CB

Not sure you have good enough evidence to blame LB for D.J.’s disappointing season.

I believe two things have changed for D.J.

1) He’s playing the point now and not sharing a back court w/ Felton. He’s not just out there as a shooter but is expected to run the offense. It’s going to take some time for him to be a true PG.

2) He’s really small and teams were paying more attention to him at the beginning of the season. He got beat up and that hurt his confidence. He seems to be coming back but he’s going to have to show that he can play even when teams are focused on shutting him down.

Having said all that playing in NY or Phoenix would fit his skill set better, but apparently anybody becomes a great 3pt shooter when they play next to Steve Nash.

by and1droid on Feb 14, 2010 8:44 PM EST up reply actions

Not entirely blaming Larry for D.J.'s struggles,

but, as you know, Larry is very big on defense. Apparently, and I’m just going by rumors, D.J. doesn’t give it his all on defense in practice, and to me, at least, he doesn’t in the games. His skills are centered around his offensive skill set, so, when I say it’s because of Larry, I’m just pointing out his lack of playing time. I agree with everything you said though. The ultra small back court of Augustin/Felton was very effective at times last year.

by Charlotte Bobcat on Feb 14, 2010 9:05 PM EST up reply actions

He was also getting the chance to play alongside four starters last year.

This year, he’s lucky if he gets to play with two in their true positions.

If the Wizards are hot for DJ and want to blow up the roster at the same time (as outlined by the trade with Dallas)

Then what about this puppy

Wizards cut roughly $6 million long term from their cap and get another expiring contract.

Everything I'm reading says that Jamison is staying in Washington

But if they did want minor cap relief and D.J. that badly, then I wouldn’t mind this deal.

Agreed

We’ll make some move… but it will probably be something no one has thought about, or been rumored.

hmm yeah could work

then we would probably have to sign Wally szczerbiak because of need of depth at forward and guard.

by MJ5 on Feb 14, 2010 9:49 PM EST reply actions

For those who don't want Blatche. think of him like this

He is Jason Thompson if given Thompson’s minutes. You would give up DJ for Thompson so why not for Blatche.

by MJ5 on Feb 14, 2010 11:26 PM EST reply actions

Thompson and Blatche are comparative scorers… but Thompson is a better rebounder (9.7 rpg vs. 8.2 rpg per 36)

Plus, Blatche gets about minus 9 million cool points for this

ha nice

Well Blatche is a better scorer, defender, passer, free throw shooter, and he is more experienced.

by MJ5 on Feb 14, 2010 11:45 PM EST reply actions

How is Blatche a better scorer or passer?

Jason Thompson is averaging more points and assists per 36 than Blatche.

Yes, statistically Blatche is a better FT shooter.

The defender aspect is subjective, however, per 82games.com when Thompson plays the 5 his opposing number has a lower PER than Blatche when Blatche is at the 5.

by southtunnel on Feb 15, 2010 8:55 AM EST reply actions

Blatche for DJ straight up?

I’m doing that in a second. Small backup PGs who can shoot are easy to find. Athletic 6’11" PF/Cs with decent range (and developing three point range) and very good defensive potential are much harder to locate. If that deal was on the table and Charlotte turned it down, I have to scratch my head a little bit.

by Spider Jerusalem on Feb 15, 2010 4:05 PM EST reply actions

Add Al Thornton to the list

The Clippers are entertaining offers for Al Thornton.

He’s not a very good rebounder… but a great scorer.

Cat Scratch Reader's resident optimist.

by James Dator on Feb 15, 2010 4:45 PM EST reply actions

Yeah, Thornton is probably available for an expiring contract. He’s not much of a PF though and really struggled in that role when the Clippers tried him out there. He’s ok for a few minutes in a small ball lineup but struggles against the larger PF’s, and like you said, he’s a poor rebounder for the position.

by ClipCat on Feb 16, 2010 1:13 PM EST up reply actions

Athletic guy… can play multiple positions.

He sounds like a Larry Brown type player. I bet Larry would think he could be coached up.

Looks like we might have to cross off three guys from this list soon

It has been reported that a deal is close that would send Jared Jeffries, Jordan Hill, and possibly Al Harrington (if not him, then Larry Hughes) to Houston.

by Ben Swanson on Feb 16, 2010 7:43 AM EST up reply actions

I Highly Doubt

any of them going to New York as well. I don’t think Lebron nor Wade will be leaving their teams, and if Chris Bosh moves, he’s going to Miami or Chicago. New York, however, does have a good possibility of picking up a player like Joe Johnson though. There is reportedly a trade of T-Mac to the Knicks which would unload Jared Jeffries contract from the Knicks and possibly give them room to sign two max free agents. However, until that trade goes down, I’m still not thinking Lebron is going to leave. But, as a Knicks fan, it has to be sad knowing your team is tanking the whole season for the future. I think fans at least deserve knowing their front office is doing everything they can to win every year, and not just the future.

by Charlotte Bobcat on Feb 16, 2010 9:40 AM EST up reply actions

can't worry about knick fans

They don’t deserve sympathy. I am in agreement with Woody Allen when he says:

http://www.sportsmansdaily.com/Woody_Allens_Next_Film_Denies_Existence_of_Knicks.html

I, like Woody, grew up in NYC and loved Red Holzman’s Knicks. And liked Hubie Brown’s Knicks. And hated Red Auerbach’s Celtics. And was mostly indifferent toward Billy Cunningham’s Sixers even with Dr. J.

And through many years of living in many places, none of them NYC, grew away from them. Pat Ewing was no fun at all. Lenny Wilkins was not much fun either. Spike Lee has never been any fun. Isiah Thomas was the antichrist. Latrell Sprewell was the Modern Knick. And fuhgeddaboudit— Spree couldn’t even carry Stephon Marbury’s butt-plug! And they took a giant steaming dump on my hero Larry Brown!

As a Yankee fan growing up near Shea, riding the damned 7 train every day, I learned early on to despise the Mets and their fans. And Mets fans are Jets fans. (As a Yankee fan I was of course, and remain, a fanatic Giants fan.) My oldest friend is a passionate—and obnoxious— Mets and Jets AND KNICKS FAN to this day, even though he’s lived in Philly for 20 years. So I root against them. When the Yanks bought the Nets, I was happy, especially as a dyed-in-the-red-white-and-blue-wool ABAer, to follow Jason Kidd’s exploits, and when they bought the Devils, though I know nothing about hockey I was more than glad to support them in defiance of my Mets/Jets/Knicks/Rangers buddy.

Of course, now they’ve gotten rid of some of Isiah’s horrible humiliating stench and D’Antoni seems like a good enough guy. But Spike’s still sitting in the front row. (Has he ever played a game of 21 in his life?) And my buddy, whose brother can now afford full-partner’s seats, will probably start showing his puss at the Garden as well. And drinking single-malt and lighting one up like Celtic Red after the game.

Screw ’em. A few more years of suffering will be good for their souls.

Some good news

With the Knicks, Trailblazers, and Rockets all reportedly close to deals, the number of potential suitors for Tyrus Thomas decreases. Which is good for guys like me who want Tyrus to be a Bobcat

by Ben Swanson on Feb 16, 2010 8:04 AM EST reply actions

Yeah from what I'm reading about the offers they're getting, I get the same vibe

I read that they’ve gotten offers of middle first round picks and expiring contracts for Tyrus. From what I remember, we offered a draft pick we don’t have and non expiring role players. How have they not accepted that yet?

Lemonade was a popular drink and it still is.

by Ben Swanson on Feb 16, 2010 8:56 AM EST up reply actions

The offer we made for Tyrus

was reportedly Acie Law and Flip Murray, who are both on expiring deals, and a first rounder. My only objections to the trade are that we lose Flip, who provides instant offense when he’s in the game. But maybe D.J. could assume that role if Murray was traded.

Whatever offense you lose from Flip you get back with Tyrus

As inconsistently as Boris has been playing you can plug Thomas into the lineup during those 4 pt nights he has sometimes and spark something.

I agree though, Deej could fill that role.

by James Dator on Feb 16, 2010 12:08 PM EST up reply actions

No

Only rumors with DJ were him to Washington for Blatche and him to Boston for Davis.

Chicago want expiring contracts and want to be rid of Hinrich so they can make a play for Wade. Which is why the deal was to send Law, Flip and a 1st rounder.

They don’t really need Augustin.

Cat Scratch Reader's resident optimist.

Three way trade… this makes a lot of sense for all teams involved.

Here

Charlotte also sends a future 1st round pick to Sacramento.

In case the link doesn’t work, here it is:

Charlotte gets: Tyrus Thomas, Jason Thompson, Kirk Hinrich
Chicago gets: Stephen Graham, Acie Law, Flip Murray, Sean May, Kenny Thomas, Hilton Armstrong (all expiring)
Sacramento gets: Boris Diaw, Gerald Henderson, John Salmons, Future 1st round pick (from Charlotte, lottery protected)

It has nothing to do with the talent… not one iota.

It has all to do with the contracts. The Bulls don’t care that they have Warrick or Alexander… they just care that their contracts are expiring.

Cat Scratch Reader's resident optimist.

by James Dator on Feb 19, 2010 7:25 AM EST up reply actions

I'm aware of that.

But it doesn’t mean that those two players will help them in their current playoff push (even if their max upside is a second-round appearance) far more than May, Thomas, Graham, or Armstrong would, or Murray/Law will. That will directly affect the Bobcats in their own push for the playoffs.
