am i the only one who thinks that bobcats should stand pat?
Or, rather, I think they should keep their core of players. It seemed pretty obvious to me that Larry Brown gave up after the first week of the season when he started all of the convoluted line ups and odd playing times. But I personally think, with the right coach and the right strategy the current roster we have could be very good.
Paul Silas has the right idea, to speed things up. You have DJ Augustin, Gerald Wallace, Boris Diaw and Stephen Jackson in your starting lineup. All four have played for high octane offenses in the past (Augustin in college) and probably aren't suited BEST for half court offensive sets.
Our reserve players are all bursting with potential and giving Derek Brown and Gerald Henderson more minutes has to be a focus as well. Sean Livingston and Kwame Brown continue to improve every game and I would think both would eventually be full time starters before season's end, bringing DJ and Nazr off the bench for scoring punch in the second unit.
Then there's Matt Carroll. In his first run with the Bobcats he was utilized perfectly. Now, for whatever reason, he's been constantly forced to try and create his own shots. He's a spot jump shooter, that is WHY he's in the NBA. Why not use him for that purpose? For 10-18 minutes a game, Carroll should be on the floor for the sole purpose of clearing the lane for Gerald and DJ to penetrate. Give him one rotation open look per game, hopefully he hits it, and instantly the defenses have to be honest.
Do I think the current Bobcats are a championship team? Absolutely not. But playoff bound? Definately. And if properly utilized they can you know, NOT be swept by Orlando in the first round.
Now don't get me wrong, if the right trade presents itself, then we should take the bait, but I do NOT think blowing up the team is the best option. Diop has played well this year sans turnovers and his contract is an albatross. Maybe we're better off keeping him and giving him more minutes, subbing him for Kwame and putting in Nazr when we need as I said before, some second unit punch.
And keep Tyrus in the second unit. Give him more minutes, of course, but keep him there to keep the game exciting and more importantly to get his blocks and rebounds to start the fast break for the reserves.
At least, that's how I'd do it.

In direct response to your question
Absolutely not; you and I are on the exact same page.
The best possible “trade” has already happened: Larry Brown in exchange for * insert fully invested coach name HERE *. That name turned out to be Paul Silas, and the days of McGuire for 30+ minutes and DNP-CDs for D. Brown are behind us.
Joy to the World…
Looking forward to seeing the power suit that Santa gave Paul Silas for Christmas.
You are not alone
Completely agree with the team staying pat…
Here’s my thoughts on Silas specifically:

Agreed
Stand pat whilst we see what the new coach can do with the team. Trades may be necessary closer to the trade deadline but I don’t think it will cost us anything to see what Silas can do with the team for 5 – 10 games.
Good Plan
The vultures are hovering over Charlotte right now hoping they can pull the wool over Jordan’s eyes while he’s frustrated. If Charlotte can show some improvement under Silas, then they will likely be in a stronger position to deal with other teams. And if events break right, they just might coax out another playoff appearance. It’s definitely not time to give up on the season now.
The coaching change gives the team the one thing they need:
A chance.
They may not be able to do a thing with it. They may be able to turn things around to one degree or another. Nothing would have changed as long as Brown was at the helm.
Show me one other team in the league right now that has no idea what the true potential of most of their players is? Is Jackson ailing, aging, or just caught without real guidance and leadership from a coach? Is Wallace aging, poorly equipped to learn how to avoid charging calls, or just beaten up from well over a year of physical abuse? Will a more open game allow Crash to run free once again without getting caught in a crowd? Can Tyrus respond to proper training and discipline and become a real NBA starter? Is D. Brown as one-dimensional as he seems or was it the constrictions of the Brown system?
I could come up with questions like this about every player on the roster and none can really be answered. To be this deep into a season and have basic questions like these regarding every player unanswered is unheard of. It’s the cost of having a coach that just mails it in.
I know everyone is excited to get their first look at Silas’ vision – Bobcats 2.0 if you will. But let’s take a breath. The team will have perhaps 2 practices, a holiday, and then 2 more practices before taking the court. The squad has been playing as an undisciplined mob under the most structured coach in the sport for months now. Muscle memory doesn’t change overnight. Playing tendencies can’t be reversed that quickly. If we’re very fortunate, we’ll get a good idea of the direction Silas believes presents the brightest future Monday. But execution will likely be sloppy and it will be at least a couple of games before it begins to all come together and all the questions about this team can begin to find answers. These guys are pros. It won’t take them long. After the advanced calculus LB forced everyone to learn, Silas’ promised high school math should be a breeze for them. Monday night we’ll get our first glimpse. If we’re very lucky the guys will already look reborn. It’s more likely though, that we’ll have to be patient for another 2 or three games.
If we’re going to have any hope of building momentum and the post season, January will be our month.

I'm glad that the first game is against Detroit
Better to play them than one of the “NBA Elite” in our first game with a new head coach

Yeah, because they've been beating up on bad teams so easily.

Tough call.
We all know that the Cats have a storied history of playing to the competition. Against a middling-solid team like OKC we might actually have a better chance than playing Detroit – a team roughly as good as the Wizards and Grizzlies squads that ripped us to shreds.

A coaching change often leads to a short burst of wins
With or without GW we need this one against Detroit.

Stands to reason...
teams don’t know what to expect. They know the players, but they don’t know the performance in the new system…what is it…8 hours till tip off. We’ll know soon enough…I can’t wait!

Only when the team is halfway decent to begin with.
I’m not sure that’s what we’ve got here.

that's just it...
NO ONE knows what we have…
We have 2 second year guys that never played enough to show potential last year
Der Brown showed major promise in the pre-season, only to disappear when the season started.
Diop was showing he looked better than last year in the pre-season…only to disappear on the bench when the season actually started
We’ve seen what DJ could do under the LB system…I can’t wat to see what he can do when not constricted by a stubborn head coach…

good to know im not the only one
i hope silas can turn it around, and i know it may take awhile, but surely the Bobcats are capable of winning more than one out of every three games
More importantly, what will MJ do?
And we all know he desperately wants to make the playoffs again and rebuilding will be a last option for him. So I think it’s safe to say he’ll likely stand pat for a little while to see if we get back in the hunt. I’d like to see another playoff push too.
But if you start looking at the future of this team as currently assembled, you could make a case that selling high on some of our starters might be the prudent move for the long term interests of the franchise.
Oh no! We suck again!

I don’t want the coaching change to take away ALL of the panic, but it is refreshing to know that everyone else wants to give this team a chance under a new coach before blowing it up as well. Step 1 has been complete. Congratulations ROF.

I think it would be stupid to conduct an immediate trade now
I mean really, what’s the point? I say we stay put until mid to late January, and see what direction the team takes under Silas.
Per Hoopsworld, the next several games will decide the course of many players...
and the Cats reportedly have deals negotiated that they can pull the trigger on to make the changes they want next week. Clearly it’s audition time for who’s on board the new train.
Still, as OurDay said, this could look very ugly. We already had a lot of turnovers in the LB system. Using a fast break runing style always welcomes TO’s. I’m also not sure will will rebound as well in this system. A lot depends on matchups. Still, we are better built to run, and I’m very interested to see how we do at it.
I think the majority of turnovers was because of the 4 pass minimum.
The more the ball moves, the more chance for a turnover. If there is 1-2 good passes that result in a score…the turnovers come down…I almost guarantee it

Not to mention that it was the same plays ran over and over making the passes become predicatable.

If you've seen 1 game film, you've seen em all...
freeing the guys up makes the team play unpredictable.
We are about to gain character.
LB’s first year built structure and Defense
LB’s second year built set plays and a first Playoff Appearance
LB’s 3rd year built no room for flexibility, creativity, or athleticism
First 2 practices with Coach Silas = happy and excited players, freedom to show their skills and athleticism
First Game = ?

=Blowout win for the Pistons.
Lol. Nah, I think we will be a drastically improved team. And if not, at least we’ll be a lot more exciting to watch. I just hope Silas isn’t bs’ing.

reality is...
Detroit is coming into the second half of a back to back…overtime…heartbreaking loss at home…and there is no scouting film on what we will look like tonight…so…in about 4-1/2 hours…we’ll see what we got

We owe them from the first game we played up in Detroit!
And too bad I won’t be attending the game tonight , but I think it’s gonna be electric!! Almost like a playoff atmosphere!
