Gameday Preview Charlotte Bobcats at Golden State Warriors
Pump Up Music: Trick Daddy f. Cee-lo and Big Boi -- "In Da' Wind"
The Big Picture: All praise Gerald Wallace, the Bobcats' first-ever All Star. There are other deserving players who did not get invites to Dallas, notably Josh Smith and David Lee, but Crash's inclusion on the roster is no source of ridicule, nor is it a traveshamockery. The keys to his selection?
Defense (2nd in DRtg NBA)
11.0 Reb/G (7th NBA, next SF has 7.3)
42.0 Min/G (Tied, 1st NBA)
22-22 (Bobcats' record right now)
He's the front runner for Defensive Player of the Year. He's the silent leader of a team making its first serious playoff push. And just as important to fans in Charlotte, he embodies a lot of what this fan base wants from its players: a hard worker whose biography is littered with instances when he could have given up, but worked his way past obstacles instead, and a guy who brings style and flash in an unassuming, selfless, package.
Now that he's an All Star and has received official validation from coaches around the league, here's hoping we see him get more tangible respect from referees and opponents as the season goes on.
One day, the Golden State Warriors will make sense. This crazy ride they're on will have to end, and someone will come bring order, and perhaps a big dose of sanity.
The players are not idiots. They can see what's happening. Monta Ellis probably had it right when he said he and Stephen Curry couldn't play together in the backcourt. As good as Curry is, neither he nor Monta is going to effectively guard the Kobe-Tyreke-Johnson-Jax-Thabo-Battier brand of Big Guard that at least half the league employs. It's more of an issue than playing someone like Stephen Jackson, or Anthony Randolph, or Corey Maggette at the nominal power forward spot because at least then, the undersized Warrior might have an advantage on offense against a lumbering type.
At 13-31, the Warriors are headed for another lottery season, despite having solid building blocks, from Ellis, to Curry, to Randolph, to Andris Biedrins. Hell, even Ronny Turiaf is well worth keeping around. The problem, of course, is that the pieces don't fit together, Don Nelson's lost what magic he had to begin with, and no amount of 6-8 swingman spackle can keep it together.

Continuing the conversation from yesterday's post about Dell Curry broadcasting a game in which his son is playing, I realized late yesterday that the Bobcats are missing a great opportunity.
Why not tell Dell to take the night off and hand color commentary to Stephanie Ready for Warriors games? She's got the chops, as shown during her occasional games sitting in for Henry Williams, it allows Dell to just watch the game and not worry about serving an audience, and it allows the audience to not have to parse the broadcasters' motives behind their every word.
Key to Victory: The Cats' offense has the capacity to grind away at the Warriors' defense, which in turn could affect Golden State's offense. I think they'll take a football mentality early, muscling up on the smaller guys, especially whoever guards Jax, and then later run on them after they've been pounded again and again.
Detail That May Interest .08% of You: Injured Warriors sharpshooter Anthony Morrow was born in Charlotte, and Derrick Brown was born in Oakland.

What if Dell wants to broadcast the game?
I think he deserves it.
This is one fan who likes the idea of getting a firsthand look at Dell’s reaction to watching his son play ball. If you want some purist, robotic, “root for the home team/don’t have a real opinion” announcing over “proud father watching his son take his first steps in the league” then I have to question whether or not you have a heart. This is a far better narrative than anyone could have hoped for.
This is the BEST game that Dell could announce.
I suggest you do us all a favor and do ALL of the worrying about the announcer’s motives so the rest of us can sit back and enjoy the game (and the announcing). Let that be your cross to bear.
Conflict of interest
Del Curry has a definite conflict of interest in tonight’s game. In law, and medicine a conflict of interest is sufficient grounds for a person to recuse themself from a situation because of the ethical and emotional considerations. Why? Because the decisions can affect life and death. This is a basketball game. It’s also going to be broadcast at 10:30 pm which will result in a much smaller audience than usual in the 48th largest market in the country.
David, I understand the premium you place on impartiality and integrity and am actually grateful there are people that still have your attitude in the media. Sometimes it seems that most in the media think that fair is what you pay to get on a bus. But to the public at large – even for former media folk long out to pasture like myself – it’s a non-issue. In fact, many of us would have LESS trust in Del and the team if they tried to pretend Stephen Curry is just another random player. Honesty IS important and goes hand-in-hand with integrity and objectivity. This issue is getting far more “ink” than it deserves, especially since the event hasn’t even occured yet. Let’s do what we always do. Watch it unfold and THEN decide if it’s debate-worthy. But let’s keep perspective. It’s one night of some 60-odd broadcasts. My opinion regarding the ethics and integrity of the announcing team isn’t likely to change as a result of it – and I’m on of these geeky nerds you referred to yesterday that follows every game and soundbyte. (I can quote lines from movies and tv shows like Star Wars and Family Guy too. I guess that makes me the next Urkel. Oh the shame!) It’s going to matter a whole lot less to the dozen or so “normal” people that will chance on the Bobcats broadcast for the first time at 11 pm on a Friday night.

I honestly believe that Dell will call it down the middle
He and Steve always do, but maybe Dell will prove me wrong tonight

I Agree with the two posts above
First of all I joined this blog just to respond. I can’t believe someone actually cares about Dell gushing over his son on the broadcast…who wouldn’t? Being from Charlotte and a big Curry fan, everyone knows what Stephen means to the city. He represents Charlotte and with a great southern hospitality attitude. People here like to here about him and I guarantee when the Warriors come to Charlotte, that game will be up in attendance with the Cavs and Lakers games. Charlotte is a family oriented city and Stephen is part of that family.
Welcome
And though you joined to respond to one post, stick around for more. We have a pretty good time and a lot of decent fanfolk here at ROF. Join in the fun.

That's the best motivational speach about a single person that I've ever read
Hell, it got me fired up for a 10:30 Friday night road game against one of the worst teams in the league. Though it doesn’t take much to get me excited to watch The Bobs play.
He had me at hello.
Okay, just kidding. But I am VERY wired for tonight’s game after reading that article because I want the Warriors fans at the game to boo like pissed poltergeists every time Jax touches the ball. He plays like a man possessed to begin with, but add in the motivation of wanting to stick it to any of the some-timey folk that once cheered his name? He’s going to be deadly tonight. Simply deadly.

On a side not, I’ve been rocking my White Bobcats shirt that I got for being part of the high 5 team a year ago…in honor of Predator being an all star this year
