Ajinca On Fire

Alexis Ajinca has beefed up and greatly improved in the D-League.  The Bobcats game program lists him at 220 pounds.  The Red Claw TV broadcast lists him at 255.  Adding 35 pounds shows.  He no longer looks fragile.  His  pencil thin frame is now more solid and muscular.  Ajinca is grabbing the rebounds (7.5 reb/game) and playing good defense (3 blocks/game).

Take a look at the game logs.  http://www.nba.com/dleague/playerfile/gamelogs.jsp?player=alexis_ajinca

Ajinca has scored 25, 16, 27, and 26 in his last 4 games.  He blocks multiple shots almost every game.  On January 22, he recorded a triple double with 10 blocks, 13 rebounds, and 26 points.

Ajinca still needs to work on two areas.  He has a handful of turnovers every game and has collected 4 or more personal fouls in most of the games he has played.

Sure the competition is D-League, but it is great to see Ajinca developing into a good player.

Wow he really has added alot of bulk to his frame

I’m just hoping he doesn’t peak around the same time the Cats need to resign him

Meaninful minutes = about 15 mpg?

I just don’t see him coming back this season unless a center gets injured or we trade one of them. So barring those possiblities I say he stays in the d league for the season. It’s just hard to judge if his talent is that much better than Diop or Nazr

It seems like he gained that weight mighty fast

I hope he is gaining weight in a healthy way.

Nice to see his progress

I’ve been keeping tabs on his progress myself from time to time. I would agree that he needs to focus on fouling and turnovers as two areas of improvements. He fouls way too much.

I think there is a possibility that we might see Ajinca back on the team towards the latter end of the season, contributing a few minutes per game. “Meaningful minutes” I don’t think will happen till at least 2011. We’ve invested too much time with this guy, and I hope we don’t just dump him the first chance we get.

It’s good to see he is progressing, and perhaps most importantly, that he’s having an opportunity to play basketball.
