Gameday Preview Charlotte Bobcats at Phoenix Suns

Pump Up Music: Devo -- "Freedom of Choice"

The Big Picture: The Phoenix Suns are talking about trading Amar'e Stoudemire. If you think like every other casual NBA fan, you might think the Suns are crazy to even dream of trading a dude who's among the best offensive players in the league. However, there's some logic behind the apparent madness that has nothing to do with saving a buck.

Star-divide

Consider that this team is the Bizarro Bobcats: They've got the second worst defense in the league and the best offense. They might be able to make huge gains on defense with just a single tweak to the roster, and not give up that much on offense, since Steve Nash is still Steve Nash and the motley crew around him ain't exactly a bunch of stiffs. I've tried to come up with a reasonable trade for him for the Cats, but we'd need to involve at least one other team, so it's highly unlikely we get Amar'e.

Key to Victory: Frustrate Nash and make him feel like he can't control everything. He's too good a shooter to simply block off passing lanes and dare him to beat you himself. If possible, get in his shirt and take your chances with him driving to the lane in order to get him to give up the ball too early on other possessions, forcing his teammates to create offense.

Detail That May Interest .08% of You: The Suns employ Taylor Griffin, Robin Lopez, and Jarron Collins, all less-talented siblings of other NBA players. We could ship them Stephen Graham to bring their collection closer to completion.

Interesting point about the brothers.

I can’t think of any others besides those four. Well, there’s Ronell and Donell Taylor, but it’s hard to tell who is the least talented one.
