Bobcats Blot Out the Suns 125-99
The Charlotte Bobcats blew out the Phoenix Suns 125-99 Saturday night. Once again, Gerald Wallace led the way, scoring 29 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Put that man in the All Star Game.
For whatever reason, the Suns seem to have trouble in Charlotte. They were blown out by 22 last season, and this time around they didn't even compete that much. The Cats went up 12-0 and didn't look back, scoring 74 in the first half, and surpassing the 100 point mark late in the third quarter.
With shockingly dominant back to back wins over Western Conference contenders, the Cats will now attempt to maintain that intensity over the Sacramento Kings on Monday. Tyreke Evans and Kevin Martin are the best perimeter scorers they'll see over this three game stretch.
Highlights and lowlights after the jump.
-- Nothing to see here. Move along, now.
GOOD
-- The Bobcats played exceptional defense in the first half, and then in garbage time -- which started in the third quarter -- gave up a couple runs, but nothing major. The Suns' defense was so abysmal, so utterly slapdash, that the Cats had open jumper after open layup, and it seemed to wear on Phoenix's offense. Steve Nash had one of the worst games I've ever seen him play. He only had one or two pretty passes, and was openly frustrated the rest of the time, becoming essentially a nonfactor.
-- Gerald Wallace scored 29 points on 15 attempts and pulled down 13 rebounds in only 31 minutes. ALL STAR! ALL STAR! ALL STAR! Can we start this chant at the next game?
-- Derrick Brown scored 18 points on 11 attempts. Dude was blocked a lot, but they were all actually very good plays by the Suns, and that's going to happen when guys attack the rim. Better that happens than settling for 20 foot jumpers.
-- Everything else you can name went the Cats' way. They shot 85% from the free throw line. They shot 10-15 from three. They outrebounded the Suns. Turned it over only 9 times, only 1 of which was a steal. Stole the ball 12 times. The Suns looked like they wanted out, and their starters were yanked in the third quarter.

I love then minutes distribution tonight.
Awesome game.
Blogging at Ridiculous Upside, where my terrible writing meets people's eyes.
A few observations
That silence you hear is the naysayers.
A few adjectives from the AP game recap and the Yahoo recap:
Dangerous
Unstoppable
Hungry
Damaging
Drink them in friends. They’re describing our team.
In case anyone reading this doesn’t think being at .500 is phenomenal progress, the last time the Charlotte Bobcats were at .500 was with a record of 6-6 at the start of the 2007/8 season.
Did you just sit up a little straighter? You should. This is our team.
I’m now going to describe the essentials for a successful playoff run. Let’s see how we shape up, shall we?
1. Dangerous on the home court. CHECK! We’re not just winning at home, we’re among the toughest teams in the NBA to defeat in their own house.
2. Winners on the road. Nope. Not even close. With our annual West Coast swing less than 2 weeks away we aren’t likely to change this stat any time soon either. If the Bobcats come back home having won more than 2 of those games I think most of us will consider it a success. If they win more than half of them, I’ll personally put the first $50 in the kitty to start erecting the Larry Brown statue in downtown Charlotte.
3. If a starter gets injured, the team maintains until that starter returns. BIGTIME CHECK!
More than one person is openly speculating that Chandler’s 10 game absence is one of the reasons FOR the current hot streak.
4. If some of the starters have off nights, the bench picks up the slack. CHECK!
Suddenly the Bobcats have a bench. Flip Murray has reignited the fire in his belly again and he’s not the only spark plug suddenly firing on the bench…
5. The rookies hit their stride. small check
Henderson has ridden the pine for so long he’s going to need SEVERAL games of 10+ minutes to shake off the rust before he can even begin to reach for his potential. But Derrick Brown (our second rounder, btw) is looking like a 3-year veteran in a lot of ways. Tonight he poured in 18 even though the rest of his stat line left quite a bit to be desired. If this is what he can do before the midpoint of his rookie year, the very thought of what his game is going to look like come March is enough to make my heartrate climb.
6. They peak in the final quarter of the regular season and rest their starters to prep for the postseason, only playing them enough to keep them sharp. NOPE!
We’re peaked as I type this. Not only can we not get any higher without bringing in a trade, if we can turn this peak into a plateau by staying this tight for the rest of the season we won’t have a thing to worry about. Secondly, we all know damned well we won’t have the luxury of “saving” our starters for the playoffs.
So how does it all add up? Being as detached and objective as I can (not easy y’all I do love this team) a team that stacks up like what I outlined above can look at maybe lasting past the first round if they’re in the West. The Eastern Conference is a whole lot weaker though. In the East I just described the sort of team that has an outside chance of reaching the Conference Finals before going home for the summer.
If nothing disastrous (please don’t get hurt Crash, Jax, or RayRay) happens, I predict that’s just what the Bobcats will achieve. A 5 seed (possibly even 4th if misfortune hits one of the other teams) that will drive deep into the playoffs before getting hammered by the team heading to the NBA Finals. A trade or injuries could derail the entire train at this point and we’re not close enough to playoff time that the whole season can’t be washed away. But guys? This is the team we’ve been dreaming about and paying dues for. We’ve waited half a decade for it. Let’s enjoy it!
Watch out NBA. The Charlotte Bobcats have ARRIVED!

I'll just change the head of mine to Gerald Wallace's
they have the same body type, right?
Lemonade was a popular drink and it still is.
Missed the game traveling to Ecuador
Just checked the score and was shocked! Wallace and Jackson both scoring 29??? Thats got to be near impossible to stop. Best home record in the East! This is getting exciting!
on behalf of tha dirty south: soul food, carolina blue, southern hospitality, and tha queen city
Yeah.
I’m in Norway now so it’s even harder to follow the ’Cats…But we are .500 now! BEST HOME RECORD IN THE EAST too…
Makes me proud. Let’s go Cats!
Yeah it sucks, I can't watch the games for awhile
Might try a stream, but the internets a little slow. Don’t suppose there are any espn games soon???

Must be a trend...
Though i’m not overseas, business has kept me from getting to watch the last few games (and probably many more through the rest of season). But reading recaps of Bobcats blowout wins are awesome!
At .500, and making some noise, i expect the ’Cats to start making a few appearances on national TV. Especially if the team stays in playoff contention and G-Force can make the All-Star team & have a good showing there.
The old Hall of Fame Coach turning around a troubled franchise; Air Jordan trying to exorcise his front office demons; Gerald Wallace as the hard working, over achieving, under the radar, star-in-the-making all are marketable story lines. As long as the team stays on its current trajectory, an ESPN game or two hopefully will be in the near future.
The bad...
I couldn’t get an HD broadcast with my league pass.
One thing not being talked about enough: CHEMISTRY!!! You can tell that these guys like playing with and being around each other, particularly Jax, G-Force, RayRay and Flip. Everyone else feeds off their chemistry. And Boris just needed time to figure out how he fits in that crowd. Not a problem anymore.
Something has to be said for keeping this core together next year. Overpay a little for Raymond? It might be worth it as long as it’s not completely unreasonable.
Not one player hit 35 minutes in this game. 29 for Jax and 31 for Gerald Wallace. We needed a good blow out with an early game coming Monday.
Also, what a stretch of not just wins, but wins against quality teams from both conferences. If you said that a team beat the Cavs, Heat, Spurs, and Suns within 2 weeks with 2 of them being blowouts, would you think it was the Bobcats? I haven’t been this amped about the NBA since the Hornets left town.
Enfuego
The Bocats are playing inspired hoops right now…and they aren’t done yet, the Sacremento Kings must be shaking in their Converse hightops…bring on the Kings!
Kudos to Larry Brown and Staff…he has come and he has built it…a team worthy of the playoff’s
Nothin could be finer than to be in Carolina!
we looked CONFIDENT!
something the Cats have needed all year. Confidence in THEIR team and THEIR system. It’s working right now. They have some REALLY big games coming up(especially on the road) and they now have the confidence to show the world what they’re made of.

Some random cool stuff
In Hollinger’s daily power rankings, the Bobcats are 9th overall. NINTH
We also are almost a lock for the playoffs at 93.5 % projected record: 45-37
Lemonade was a popular drink and it still is.
Yea I saw that too
the playoff projection will change w/ our record though, so I wouldn’t call us locks just yet. We still have to win some road games.
that’s why I said almost. Just in case worst scenario…

Gerald Henderson
Did anyone else notice his +/- ? -20. I know the plus minus isn’t a good statistic or anything but wow. On a side note, Derrick Brown is quickly becoming one of my favorite players on the team
Lemonade was a popular drink and it still is.
He was in during trash time only...
and Barbosa was a major contributor to the -20

+/- for one game, even with significant minutes doesn't say much
Nothing to wow about. It really means nothing
Yeah I know the +/- isn't important; I just thought it interesting

So glad
I’m so glad for all us fans—and the team of course.
Enjoy the season folks, because this is awesome.
Still basking in the run of Victories
Incredible run. Awesome victory. Kings on Monday. Here we come. Game time 2:00pm.
i believe i did say that a few days ago
More than one person is openly speculating that Chandler’s 10 game absence is one of the reasons FOR the current hot streak.
--Gerald Wallace is the best player the Bobcats will have..... EVER
--Someone should slap Larry Brown and bring him back to reality..

solid deal
He just seems like the odd player out. Guys don’t want to pass to him for fear of a turnover and when you avoid a big man like that. It makes your offense less able to score.

exactly Naz seems to play better in 10 minutes then chandler does in 20+

How sweet it is. Finally some optimism from a Rufus Blog. Its about time.
The way we are playing D right now is special. Teams dont want to come in to Charlotte to play With the way we are playing at home winning a playoff series or two is not out of reach. If Boris Diaw can continue to play up to his potential we can play with anyone .
Toronto and Chicago need to stop trying to be like us|
and start losing games again. It looks like the playoff teams in the east are starting to seperate themselves from the loterry teams.
we will see who wants what
after the all star break. the games following the all star break will decide who makes it and doesn’t. A lot of teams give up after the all star break, and a lot of teams WAKE UP after the ASB.
