One
All it takes is one. One move, for one player, which changes a franchise forever. It can turn them from the laughing stock of the NBA, to one of the most respected teams in a matter of seconds. All it takes is one.
After years of suffering through inadequate trades, failed signings, and draft mishap’s, the Charlotte Bobcats finally got the one. It took over five years of suffering, watching guys like Matt Carroll, Adam Morrison, and Brevin Knight take the floor every night with little chance winning, knowing that they were going to lose night-in, night-out. It was not a fun time to be one of their fans, supporters, or anyone else associated with the franchise. Rumors were flying all around about how the city was going to lose their second franchise in little more than a decade. However, it was not meant to be.
Today, Charlotte fans around the country rejoice, for there one has come. The one guy who could put Charlotte back on the map, has come. No more will people ask you why you’re a Bobcats fan, but rather when did you become one. You will command respect when you wear your Bobcats jerseys, rather than being spit upon with jokes about last place and Adam Morrison. When we look back on this day, it will be known as the true start of our franchise. They day we came out of the closet and showed our true colors. Our day has come
But lets not forget about what we’ve been through and who’s come through our doors. Never forget the names of Carroll, Morrison, Knight, and how bad it felt to be a last pace team. Remember those names, and the others, for they will make winningthat much sweeter.
The joy of knowing that your team is one to be reckoned with, and has true playoff potential is something us young ones have never experienced before, and may never again.
All it takes is one. One move, for one player, which changes a franchise forever. It can turn them from the laughing stock of the NBA, to one of the most respected teams in a matter of seconds. Our one has come, his name is Allen Iverson.

Preach on brother!
I agree with you…
Indeed all it takes is 1
Let Felton go on and let’s offer that QO $$$ to AI
Well said..
The NBA is a league of superstars not a league of teams like the NFL. One can truly make all the difference in the world.

What was wrong with Matt Carroll?
Of course the Bobcats overpaid him and guarranteed too many years of his contract, but that’s not his fault. I enjoyed watching MC. Sure he had his limitations, but when used correctly, he was a sweet shooting role player off the bench that always played hard.
And Brevin Knight was a very useful player in the Bobcats early years. He was a fundamentally solid PG for a new expansion team who brought some order to an inexperienced team.
Iverson would be only a rental to temporary distract fans while the Bobcats begin a new phase of rebuilding.
Brevin Knight is STILL the best PG in Bobcats history.

Are u drunk?
AI is over the hill and is a whiny little bitch. He might not even have one good year left in him much less be the savior you make him out to be. He will get in the way of other players developing. Bad decision!
ok
So who will our 20+ points per night guy this year?
Our Go-to guy
Did something happen this off season to make one of the current roster members an All-Star player?
Anyone we can get for more points I will welcome

Iverson tanked the Pistons' season with his offseason distractions last year...
why do we think he’s magically the answer (forgive the pun) for Charlotte? He does supply PPG, but at what cost?

When the trade was done I didn't think he fit.
Billups was way too important to that team’s chemistry, it also didn’t seem there were enough shots to go around with Hamilton and Sheed on the roster.
I just don’t think he compliments our current team… but I do trust that if anyone can get Iverson to shut up and play ball, it’s Larry Brown.

How does he not compliment Bobcats?
I am not an AI fan particularly, but i like the deal because i think he would compliment the current roster almost perfectly.
The Cats need scoring right? Iverson can definitely score the ball.
The team needs another PG don’t they? Either they resign Felton or get someone else. If Iverson will play for what Felton will, then why not AI? If he signs for 1 or 2 years then that gives DJ time to step up and take the reigns as the starting point. As opposed to resigning Felton to a longer deal and thus intensifying the current debate as to who the PG of the future will be in Charlotte. Iverson would definitely be the PG of now and let DJ be the PG of the future.
With Diaw’s passing abilities that gives the Cats the ability to run the offense through him and let AI play off the ball too — though AI is plenty capable of distributing the ball. Because of the lack of offensive minded players who wanted to take shots on the roster last season after the trade, the Cats ended up with Felton “jacking up” a lot of shots. Why not have AI be the one making things happen when the shot clock is running down?
I can understand more the argument that he is past his prime and a prima donna. However, he does seem to be a pretty good fit with the rest of the roster.
Okay, so your argument is centered on Iverson playing PG for us. The argument about Felton has always been that he shoots too much and distributes too little. So, how does making Iverson our starting PG who shoots more than Felton (14.5 FGA per 36 vs. 12.6 FGA per 36) make sense?
Simply arguing that “Well, Felton jacks up shots all the time, so it might as well be Iverson jacking up the shots” simply isn’t condusive to progress. Especially when you have a PG sitting on the bench who is averaging 16 ppg on 11.5 FGA per 36 minutes in DJ Augustin. DJ doesn’t need ‘a couple of years’… he’s ready to assume the role now.
Furthermore, fans of bringing Iverson to Charlotte are simply choosing to ignore his off court antics. Complaining publicly about the team, his role, his playing time, practice and more. Is that really the kind of influence you want to expose to your mostly young team without any clear veteran leadership in the locker room?
Iverson is a tweener, not a good enough passer to be a true PG and too good a shooter to be a pure distributer. Yes he can score, but do we really need another 6 ft PG/SG hybrid on the roster? There is such a thing as addition by subtraction and I think the key to the Bobcats will need to be casting Felton aside and handing the reigns to Augustin who is far superior.
Does Iverson immediately make us a playoff team? I don’t think so. If we had gone out and secured a Brandon Bass or traded for a David Lee we would be right there, but we didn’t. Unless he guarantees this team will make the playoffs, I don’t see a real use bringing him in and risking him poisoning the locker room while Augustin’s progession is stunted due to a lack of playing time at PG.

you just don't like AI. I get it. Neither do I but i want the Cats to win and AI will help in that department.
Lee has one good season for a sorry NY team and he’s a great player? hardly. Bass has done about as much in his career as Muhammed had done up to this point in his career. Neither of those players being there would have nearly the impact of adding a capable scorer and potential All-Star like AI.
And contrary to your (and others’) wishful thinking, DJ is just not that good yet. He has potential yes, but his numbers are just OK. Felton is actually still a more productive player in the immediate than DJ. Keeping DJ and not felton has much, much more to do with future potential than immediate production on the court.
As far as distrubiting the ball is concerned — not one season in his career has AI averaged as few assists as DJ did last season. AI’s career APG is 6.2 and his worst season for assists he averaged 4.6 per game. DJ’s 3.5 last season is pretty bad actually. And they have comparable assist to TO ratios as well.
DJ needs to be the back up again this season for the Bobcats to make the playoffs
The per stats you list dont take into account that Iverson is a starter playing against the best in the league while DJ got most of his time against 2nd stringers. so those stats are basically meaningless.
I don't have problems with A.I, I problems with A.I as a Bobcat
Bass or Lee address a real, tangible team NEED… Iverson addresses nothing. He gives us extra scoring, but how many points will be taken away from the rest of our starters?
Basketball-reference.com’s per 36 minute stats are hardly meaningless, whether you choose to ignore them or not is irrelevant.
I will stand by my addition by subtraction comment. If we want a PG who jacks up shots and doesn’t add to the team dynamic, then stick with Felton or get Iverson. If we want to improve our ball movement, then go with D.J. Assists alone do not prove what an effective point guard is. D.J is better at moving the ball and directly attributing to the assists of others than Felton or Iverson.
I just want the Cats to win too… but how many winning teams are there in the league without of backup power forward? We have NO DEPTH… ZERO. If Diaw gets injured we’ll be playing Nazr, Ajinca or Diop at C with Chandler at the 4…. do you feel good about that? I sure don’t.
Getting Iverson would be a last ditch move to try and prove this team is serious after a horrendously botched off season. This off season proved to be the worst in memory simply because we are so close and missed so many opportunities to add pieces that would benifit us, see Bass, Warrick, Joe Smith etc.

There is nothing true about this statement. Nothing at all.
You coulod effectively make the case that Augustin is the best shooter of the three.
But at this stage in all three player’s careers, he is the least effective PG.
Picking up AI...
…is such a superior move than Bass, Lee, Warrick, Joe Smith, etc. that i have a hard time believing that you are serious.
Alright, I’ll respond to all four of your comments one at a time.
1. D.J does move the ball better on court, whether you rely on empirical data or not he does not give up on a play and jack up a shot like Felton or Iverson. He has FAR fewer per 36 FGAs compared to the other two.
2. How is Augustin the ‘least effective PG’ when his per 36 stats show otherwise? He hasn’t had a chance to run the first team offense, but when he does the results are in his favor.
3. Radmanovich cannot play the 4, nor has he ever effectively play PF. Height alone doesn’t dictate position. He is a 6"10 SF, nothing more, nothing less. I find it hard to believe we were willing to trade for Chandler to get ‘better defense’ only to rely on VladRad to play the 4 in case of injury, he is a horrible defender.
4. I have a hard time believing your serious if you can’t see the value of adding a true, legitimate backup PF than adding another 6ft guard. I’m looking at what the team NEEDS not what posters can be hung on a 13 year olds wall. Getting Iverson would be all flash and little substance.

I dont know why procton continues to post here
since his boyfriend Chokafor is gone, I was hoping I wouldnt have to read his ridiculous hating rants. Go to the Hornets page & blog Procto. The OP is right, we have a chance to get a future HOF, a proven scorer, the guy who can take the last shot, the guy who could bring ticket sales up, but all the haters talk about is his past & how old he is. AI can still put up between 20-40 plus points a game. Its time for the Cats to step up.
"one is the loneliest number that youll ever see"
Amen
His negativity sucks…and I’m tired of people judging players based on 1 season…
Look to the potential.
