Around SBN: Two Minutes Of Thunder Basketball Wins The Game

I have no idea if Felton and the Bobcats will see this offer as a benchmark in their own negotiations, but here's hoping everyone sees the light. I'm guessing the Bobcats assign lesser value to Felton than many other teams in the league simply because they're excited about the young PG they already have and they're intrigued by his potential. A team like the Knicks, with an unexciting incumbent PG, might value Felton more.

Might be missing something here

But I’m not making the connection between the W’s signing Watson and the Bobcats’ negotiations with Felton. Watson is a back of the rotation shooting guard, and I’m not really sure why the W’s even want him back considering how overloaded they already are with shooting guards. I’d give whatever minutes are left over at the 2 to Anthony Morrow, who appears to be a much better player with more potential.

Ramon Sessions is more indicative of the market for Felton since they are by far the two best remaining FA PG’s. The Knicks have shown they prefer Sessions to Felton, but they don’t want to give up any more of their 2010 cap space to get him. I haven’t heard talk of any team besides the Bobcats still interested in Felton, whose options seem to be down to accepting the Bobcats’ best offer or the QO.

However, IMO the Bobcats would be better off signing Sessions to a near MLE deal and cutting Felton loose. Sessions has shown the ability to play both guard positions, and I’m intrigued by the idea of playing Sessions and Augustine together.

I couldn't agree more with you

But I think it’s a snowball’s chance we cut Felton loose at this point. There seems to be some unwaivering, blind commitment to him from a front office perspective that is superceeding logic. Getting Sessions would be the sensible move, the efficient move, the cost effective move… but I just don’t see it happening.

Felton will be on the roster next season either signed to an extension, or playing for the QO. Either way, it log jams us at a position of depth (starting PG) while we’re still languishing with a major need (backup PF).

Session's stats do show him to be the superior offensive player...

though his jump shot is horrible, only .176 for 3p% last season. His shooting details show that his superior overall FG% results from better shot selection. He also appeared to benefit from a more efficient team offense as his shots were assisted a good deal more than Felton’s.

Overall I like the idea of signing Sessions instead of Felton. My only concern would be chemistry going into next season.

If Sessions is the benchmark...

Then the Knicks’ $4 million offer should be very telling. If Felton gets any more than $5-6 mil a year long term, I’ll be very disappointed. I absolutely agree that Sessions could be a nice fit. However, how do you feel about the potential interest from your LA boys in him?

My first argument against socialized healthcare? Yunel Escobar's grill.

I've been rooting for Sessions to sign with the Clippers all summer

Baron Davis was so awful last year that I would love for the Clips to have Sessions ready to go in case he falters again. But that lack of a clear path to becoming a starter seems to have made the Clips only a fallback option for Sessions until the Knicks make up their minds. Fortunately the Clips brought in Bassy Telfair in case they don’t land Sessions.

I agree with you about Felton’s salary. He seems to have lost pretty much all his contract leverage, and the Bobcats are wise to bargain carefully with him. At this point, $4-5 million per year for two or three years seems reasonable to me.

No thanks

The way Baron Davis played last season, we are better off with Felton. Not saying that Felton is an all-star caliber player, but Felton is still young compared to Davis. All I’m saying is that Davis won’t make our offense or defense any better than with Felton in our lineup.

OK

Again…don’t base a player on 1 season…
