Links for a Monday Afternoon: Gerald Wallace, Bill Laimbeer, Kobe Bryant
Finally, the long NBA season is over. Adam Morrison has a ring, which makes him a better person than any one of us non-champions (but only 1/4 as good a person as Derek Fisher), and now Bobcats fans can go about gnashing our teeth over the possibility of drafting Tyler Hansbrough with the 12th pick overall.
Either way, a few links to pass on.
-- Truth About It came up with a three-way trade proposal that would move Gerald Wallace, Raja Bell, and Nazr Mohammed for Antawn Jamison, Nick Young, and Etan Thomas. I'm pretty sure it's a non-starter if we keep Diaw, or if the Wiz are unwilling to move Butler instead of Jamison, but you've gotta offer to get a trade done, no?
-- Bill Laimbeer is set to resign as coach of the Detroit Shock. Setting aside the craziness of Rick Mahorn taking over as head coach of a WNBA squad, Laimbeer gets results, and I can't help but read into this that he's getting out of women's basketball before he calcifies into a women's coach and never gets a shot at coaching men, a la Geno Auriemma. Of course, that assumes that, like Auriemma, he views coaching men to be an avenue he wants to pursue.
-- In the only kind of thing that can happen in the NBA, yesterday morning, Kobe Bryant was merely great, and today he's one of the All Time Greats, as illustrated by SLAM Online. He's not any more or less great than he was yesterday morning.

That trade...
No, no, no, no, no from the Bobcats end. We give up the most important player on our team (Wallace) and another starter, and get 1. an old shitty player (Etan Thomas), 2. an old mediocre player (Jamison), and 3. a young, unproven player. No thank you.

not as bad as it seems
Im not a fan of this trade mainly because im a Wallace fan but i would love to see nick young on this team. His defense is a little suspect but he is a proven scorer which is something that the bobcats need. I would propose Felton, Mohammed and Wallace for Nick, Jamison, and a early draft pick.
Care to define "proven scorer" for me?
He does take a lot of shots, I know that much, but he isn’t very efficient, and I wonder how he’d do even as one of the lower-end options in the starting lineup.

Of course he takes alot of shots. He’s a shooter just like J Rich and Ray Allen and Reggie Miller this guy chunks the ball up there. Im in no way sayin he is as good as those guys right now but he could be if he were coached right. And one thing that Nick has that J Rich and Ray Allen dont is a pair of freash legs. This kid has superstar writen all over him… if he learns to “Play the right way” as LB likes to say.

So, I take it, then, that there's no way you could think of a sane way to label him a proven scorer as you claimed?
The comparisons you just laid out are ridiculous. In nearly 40 years of NBA experience between those three guys the lowest PER any of them had was Jason Richardson’s 13.8 in his rookie season. Young set a new career high…with a 13.1 His eFG is also very weak compared to any of theirs, including Richardson, who was quite a poor three-point shooter early in his career.

Do it!!
Jamison presents so many match up problems, his jumper is better than Wallace’s and he finishes better at the rim. Bell is in his final stages and Young would come in nicely to replace him. Thomas for Nazr, your basically getting two rotational guys for defense and rebounding, neither outshines the other. We gain instantly by aquiring Jamison and Young.
He finishes better at the rim?
You’re kidding, right? Jamison can hardly get off the ground at this point in his career.

that is why...
jamison averaged about 20 and 8 a game and wallace averaged about 16 and 6…. yeah your right jamison sucks
It's not hard to rack up numbers with no talent around you. There's a reason the Wizards didn't win 20 games.

No Thanks
That trade is terrible. I wouldnt mind bringing in someone like Jameson, but I’m not sold on how legit Nick Young will actually be. Eaton Thomas wasnt great to begin with and he’s now recovering from heart surgery. All that set aside…anything requiring us to give up Wallace needs to be really interesting…Jameson isnt.
Jameson does finish well around this rim though….he doesnt have a lot of hops, but he reminds me of diaw in the sense that he has some clever moves around the basket
