Bobcats Worked Out Several Big Men This Morning; More Later
As noted in an earlier post, my day job has given me the opportunity to check out a couple of the Bobcats' pre-draft workouts. This morning, it was Tyler Hansbrough, Taj Gibson, Shawn Taggart, and a couple other guys. The photo to the left is my favorite among the AP pictures you can see by clicking "Browse More" here.
Either way, I was sent to shoot video, so shoot video I did. Later today, we'll be posting the edited footage, probably on The Baseline, and I'll comment then on what's in the video. Here's what to expect:
-- Workout drills are usually weird to look at, primarily because they're usually contextless. However, you'll see bits of a three on three drill.
-- Larry Brown comments.
-- Tyler Hansbrough comments.
UPDATE: The two videos I mentioned are not not up as of 7:45pm, so they're probably being posted tomorrow. We also shot a short interview with Taj Gibson that's been linked on Conquest Chronicles.

Did Gibson and Hansbrough get a chance to match up?
I was hoping Taj could make him look silly like he did in the tourney a few years back.

I’d need to see the three on three video again to be sure, but from what I saw, no one really stood out, including Hansbrough; they were on the other side of the floor, so my view wasn’t really the best. I’m biased toward defensive players, anyway, and Hansbrough had shockingly few blocks in his college career, which is a red flag to me. My tongue in cheek poll aside, I think it’s perfectly fair to expect a Leon Powe type of upside from him, except Powe is the way he is because of injury limitations, while Hansbrough is the way he is because of other limitations.

I have a friend who is the head manager from UNC...
And his claim was that his dad and other coaches when he was younger taught him to be so scared of fouling that he simply refuses to play any type of defense that might lead to a foul.
That’s why I thought his foul out in the final game of the season was so ridiculous.

Kind of like how Hansbrough made Dook look silly his four years there. lol. Wow man, is it your daily duty to go around hating everything unc? Where your SAT scores not high enough to attend? Did you lose your job to a unc alum? I mean really man, whats with you? It must be really hard being a dook fan.
I hate Hansbrough in the same sense I hated Tebow. If he somehow ends up on the Bobcats I will be very displeased. I don’t even understand working him out.

OK, let me go over some of our front office personnel with you:
Michael Jordan-UNC
Larry Brown-UNC
Phil “Alkie” Ford-UNC
Rod Higgins-slave to Michael Jordan, UNC
You remember that Jeff McInnis crap, right? And the ongoing Sean May crap?

And who can you see hanging around the workouts?
Buzz Peterson (supposedly the coach at App. St.)-UNC

May was/is horrible. I still regret they didn’t trade up that year and get CP3 for Felton & May, but i digress….
I am not (repeat NOT) a UNC fan. That said, if Hansbrough is available when our currently scheduled second round pick occurs, the Cats would be foolish to pass up on him. He probably has as many low post moves on offense as any of our current roster. (That says more about our roster’s low-post scoring ability than it does about Hansbrough’s skill set.) Charlotte needs a post player than go face up to the rim and score on a consistent basis. Hansbrough could be that type of NBA player.
While Sean May is a bust in every sense of the word, i see Hansbrough with the potential to be a sleeper like Josh Howard. A not-so athletic senior, former ACC POY that is ready to contribute immediately and has an upside to morph into a perennial team leader in the right situation.
Hansbrough is a horrible pick at 12, but a great pick at 41.
And I'd take DeRozan if he fell there...
But it ain’t gonna happen
