Around SBN: Please, Someone Make Bob Sapp Stop Already

"I think it's bull personally,'' said Chandler, who matched his season-high with 13 points. "When you lose and play like we do, you can't say that someone else is the problem. I don't feel like we're good enough to point fingers.''

DA: Shoals added his two cents, and makes the point that Wallace might be getting into a diminishing returns argument. Basically, the available rebounds are going to be the same no matter who's out there, but why is Crash being relied upon to go get them instead of the bigger guys who are ostensibly better-designed to do that job? It's an uncomfortable question to try to answer if you are one of those guys.

He sucks, but he's right.

Teams don’t get to be six games under .500 because a guy or two isn’t playing well.

Chandler is also whining about playing hurt.

He says his game if off because of his ankle and other assorted issues.
He says it may be weeks before he’s able to play 100%
I think he needs an enema or 20 so he won’t be quite so full of shi… uhm, dookie.

He says doctors told him that.

OKC also said he wasn't healthy to pass a physical.

Or was that a lie too?

A lie?

They said he failed because of a bad toe. Pardon the pun, but a toe is a good foot away from the ankle he says is injured. I guess the OKC docs were just so captivated by the toe that they didn’t look any higher and assumed everything else was healthy.

One reason Wallace’s words may have bothered Chandler is because Chandler is battling through ankle and toe problems. Though he’s played in 24 of the Bobcats’ 26 games this season, Chandler said he still is not fully recovered after having surgery on his left ankle and toe in May.

Good question

One would think that given seven months he could have bought a new toe on Ebay and had it grafted on.

Why, there's an answer for that too for those who actually chose to click through to the article..
“Some days I feel like I’m 90 percent, then sometimes like last night [against Utah], I feel like I can’t move,‘’ said Chandler, whose per game averages of 6.5 points and 6.8 rebounds are his lowest since his rookie season. "Doctors have told me I won’t be 100 percent until halfway through the season.’’

I'm taking bets now

That at the 49% mark of the season he gets another injury, reinjures his toe, or suddenly gets a relapse of back spasms.

OK guys....

Chill out…

We’re going at each other. Let’s look at reality…
We only have a few good players on the team…seriously. By good, I mean NBA caliber.
Who?
Here they are in random order:
Wallace, Jackson, DJ, Felton, Nazr, Chandler, Diaw, Murray(I said NBA caliber…not starter/all-star and though they are in randon order, the last 3 barely make the list at all)

Now we have some rookies that could possibly be something if we could see them for more than a 4-5 minute span. We need to see these guys in spans of 7-8 minutes minimum and possibly for an entire period if they are faring well…
Those guys obviously are Brown and Henderson…

Then there are the D- Leaguers…
Diop, Graham, Law

Of course…of our NBA caliber players, you have to try hard to create a starting 5. So what do you do? Do you make trades? Do you test your rookies?
I don’t claim to have the answers. Personally, I start with 5 guys and rotate them out if my first 5 are not working out. If 6 minutes into the 1st period, things are flat, then I bring in more guys.

My example:
I start the following:
Felton
Jackson
Wallace
Chandler
Diaw

6 minutes into the game, let’s say Diaw is 0 for 3 with no rebounds, and a foul. He meets the bench and Brown will be coming in. If the PF he is going against is a bigger guy…Chandler will be expected to double team/help out…otherwise we are OK. Chandler picks up quick fouls, then obviously Nazr comes in. Jackson is 7 minutes in and is putting in reasonable minutes. Let’s keep the team fresh and rotate in Henderson. Felton s not doing well. Then in comes DJ. Felton is doing good…then DJ gives him a breather with 2 min left in the 1st. Wallace is about the only guy I leave in. If his shot isn’t there he’s a rebounding beast. If his game is on, then everything is falling into place. If Diaw has an on game and doesn’t look to be falling apart after the 1st period, he stays in and I bring in Brown to give Wallace a rest. I think everyone can see where I’m going with this…and note I am not bringing in Murray, Diop, Graham, or Law unless Hell has frozen over.

I know LB is a Hall of Fame coach, and I am a huge fan of his. I was tickled to get only his autograph at the open practice. His work has been proven. I’m an average guy with a love of basketball. I would love to be an assistant coach with Larry Brown…more specifically on this Bobcats team(regardless of who the head coach is). I wouldn’t want the job for the money (though it would be nice). I would want the job to share new ideas, and to make new suggestions. The saying, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” does not apply to this team. The Cats are better than they are playing. LB has his way of coaching and getting the guys to play the “right” way. I sometimes wonder what “The Right Way” is anymore. The NBA game has changed so much over his career in the NBA. The players have changed. If you are drafting college Jrs and Srs for your team, they technically are about 1/5th of an NBA season from being an NBA player. Without playing time, they remain college Jrs and Srs that are getting no further experience. Sure they get a bit in practice, but that isn’t the same as “on the job training”. In my work career, I’ve learned much more on the job then I have from a book or a class, Thses guys know basketball, they just need to learn how it is played in the pros. That includes game speed, NBA rules, how to read a team’s defense and offense. Why are our rookies, specifically Henderson struggling? They could play against our guys and kill them, because they can read our defensive and offensive schemes. Those are the only schemes they are active in, and that isn’t saying much. I can read those schemes as well. Do we need 50+ plays? No…15-20 good set plays is a plenty. The rest should be on the fly. I can tell you that if I sat on the bench, I could only learn so much by watching another team play. Put me in and let me get a feel for what I’ve been seeing, and you’ll see results.

I’m sorry I wrote a book, but I want everyone to understand that we honestly only have about 8 guys deserving to be in the rotation, and a couple are rookies that need to be in there because when the end of the year comes, those guys will make the difference in not only whether or not we make playoffs, but also whether we exit in the first round or go further.

By the way, could someone tell me this stat…has LB ever coached a rookie to rookie of the year?

I would think not since rookies don’t get playing time.

Honestly andrew

I’m not going at anyone. I was having some fun and laughs. I won’t speak for Procton, but I think he was approaching it in that same spirit.

I swear to God the “toe is a good foot from the ankle” was just too good a pun to resist.
I’ve been laughing the whole time I’ve been involved in the thread. My son had surgery today and although it wasn’t serious surgery, this was a way for me to chuckle a bit and break tension.

Yeah bro'

The post was too long to read. I can’t believe you wrote something that well thought out and long. I mean, you have to keep it short and sweet – like I do!

(and lo, the silence was broken only by the sounds of heads shaking in astonishment)

LOL

You were my inspiration…
I knew it was long, but I get bored sometimes and like to share the thoughts in my head…just to be sure I’m on pace with everyone else.

Teams with a higher overall level of talent at every position are afforded the ability to have a player or two have subpar games.

The Bobcats, however, do not have enough depth and talent to get wins when 2 or 3 players are playing poorly.

Wallace has the right to call out Diaw and Chandler for playing like crap because Wallace is the leader of this team. All I’m seeing right now is three guys busting their asses (Wallace, Jackson, Felton), then a crowd of guys trying to get stuff happening (Nazr, Brown, Augustin, Henderson) followed by a group of who are hindering the team (Chandler, Diaw, Murray).

Chandler can think it’s ‘bull’ all he likes, but Tyson needs to shut up and prove Wallace wrong rather than crying bull. Chandler is exactly like his stupid self promoting website, all talk and no action.

Cat Scratch Reader's resident optimist.

Agreed
Chandler either puts up or shuts up
And I tried to be positive about him coming here…but I’m all out…nothing left to promote him. I see a team that is a Center and a “REAL” PF away from going into the playoffs…further than the 1st round.

And I’m even saying it with Felton and DJ as our PGs.

by andrewlail76 on Dec 21, 2009 6:10 PM EST up reply actions

I think you guys are missing something here.

At some point, it’s not about effort or heart. It’s about talent, and guys like Chandler and Diaw just don’t have it. Neither one of them is drastically underperforming their career rate stats. Maybe they are who we thought they were.

In your last post

you quoted an article saying that Chandler’s stats are the worst since his rookie season. Now, unless he was playing rookie year for Larry Brown, that means he’s having the worst season of his career.

by Ourdaywillcome on Dec 22, 2009 12:35 AM EST up reply actions

He's also not getting consistent minutes.

Some of that is his fault (fouls, etc.), but we should never have believed he was anything but an average NBA starter at the very top of his upside.
