Well at least

he isn’t suiting up until after the weekend.
We face Philly without him. Even as a grumpy old man he’s not going to make playing against his team any easier. When he DOES come back onto the court he’s going to have a huge chip on his shoulder and feel like he has to prove to everyone he’s still got some juice. That means he’s either gonna ball hog and severely screw up Philly’s flow or he’s gonna ball hog and throw up 40 points before getting into a fistfight (possibly with his own teammate) and fouling out. I’ll go with the first option as most likely given his age and the fact that he hasn’t played recently. It seems that the only person that doesn’t realize Iverson is human is the one he sees when he shaves in the morning.

Well written – I agree completely, and I suspect AI will have some games that fit both your scenarios. But now there will likely be more games of the screwed up variety than before. Looks like the 76ers saw their season slipping away and decided they had to do something now. Smells like a panic move, but at least they were smart enough not to guarantee AI’s contract.

Philly just wanted to get some buzz and replace an injured starter...

One of their executives was quoted in an ESPN story admitting something along the lines of “Our team could not possibly be any less interesting right now, so what could it hurt?”

Remember when the Panthers had a good offensive line? Yeah, me too.

I'll also say...

that I would not be surprised at all if Iverson’s cut the second Lou Williams comes back and proves he’s healthy.

One other thing

They figure they can make a buck. Where else can they pick up a player for a pro-rated salary of less than $700K (IF they even keep him for the whole season) that can fill seats and sell merch? I read earlier that the brand spankin’ new Iverson game jerseys will be fully stocked and on sale in the Wachovia for Monday night and available for sale at the team website the following morning. Although Philly won’t release exact numbers, they said ticket sales for next week’s homestand are already triple what they were for other home games thus far this season. Even if the honeymoon is short and he starts a riot in the locker room before Christmas, the Sixers management will have gotten their pound of flesh. For them this was a no lose deal even if AI only posts 2 points and an assist per game.
