Is DJ On His Way to the Knicks?

From the FanPosts

A bit of morning reading for you: NY Daily News has a Knicks source commenting on Augustin

I don't know how much stock to put in this but it looks like LB may be shopping our hard pressed "future franchise point guard" pretty hard with some of his cronies.

Even more importantly, I don't know what we could get in return. The article points out the unlikliness of our getting Nate Robinson, so unless LB is going after one of the NY bigs, it looks like he's just trying to unload Deej.

(DA: Huh. Word of MJ overruling LB is fascinating. Given DJ's success last season, I can't fathom the lack of patience necessary to dump him already, especially since he's going to be exceptionally cheap for the next few years. Unless there's a third team involved, I don't see how a reasonable trade would improve us this year or moving forward. Would the Knicks give up Wilson Chandler and Jordan Hill? I'm not sure that's a good deal for either team.)

I fail to see who we would want from the Knicks in this deal?

The only player who comes to mind is Jordan Hill, or possibly a sign and trade for David Lee sending Diaw along with DJ.

Knowing the Bobcats though it’ll be DJ and Boris for Eddy Curry… that seems more likely than anything.

If they’re approaching a deal they better be damn sure Felton and his agent are ready to resign, because this franchise will be in the doldrums if they screw up the point.

Hill has also been a total flop.

And I don’t think Lee will ever sign here long-term, so I think that’d be a bad move, too.

I agree Hill has been a flop, thus far.

He’s young though. If we have to trade DJ, I’d rather than then some of the other losers on their roster.

As for Lee...

I don’t think he would either, but I did say ‘sign and trade’. Maybe he could be convinced that he’ll get lost in the Summer of 2010 and by putting pen to paper now he’d be secure financially.

David and James

David – I caught the reference to the MJ overide and found myself questioning the source myself.
James – I’ve had a creeping feeling we were sniffing around for Curry for the past couple of weeks and I know I’m not the only person here at Rufus catching that same scent on the wind. I don’t know how eager the Nicks will be to add Diaw to their roster. My understanding is that they were waiting until the Free Agent market next summer to fill frontcourt slots and there will be better than Diaw out there.

Looking at the money side of things, we’ll only save a year swapping Diaw’s contract for Curry (assuming Curry takes his $11 million option from us next season and doesn’t shop himself) and although the overall cash saved is in the $9 million range, we won’t see those savings until the 2013/14 season. Until then (again assuming DJ is in the package as well) it’s almost a break even money move. It won’t give us any extra money to offer in Felton’s direction and creates an immediate red alert problem at the point. It’s possible that Brown wants to kill Raymond by giving him the same ghastly minute load Crash and Jax are carrying. Then the crisis gets even worse if there is an injury or we fail to ink Felton for next year. Brown seems to think 40 minutes plus per night is some kind of a reward instead of a request for long-term disability.

I’ve heard worse trade ideas but this is going to be one scary tightrope walk unless the FO already has something else in the works. One thing’s for sure – if this happens there won’t be many DNP-CDs showing up for Acie Law any more. Maybe Acie’s been tearing it up at practice.

It sure made tonight’s game worth paying a lot more attention to. We get to watch a game and do a little window shopping at the same time!

Is there any reason the Knicks would give up David Lee I know its unlikely but he would be perfect on this team he scores passes well and unlike diaw he brings it every night and rebounds the basketball. I can dream

I like this one
DJ and Diaw for Harrington and Hill

by dudemanhey on Dec 15, 2009 3:55 PM EST reply actions

Maybe we could even throw in Ajinca too

It’ll make the trade almost equal monetarily and we would get him off the books.

by Stevarino on Dec 15, 2009 4:02 PM EST up reply actions

I dislike that trade.

It puts too much stock in the idea that Jordan Hill could be a starting PF next season.

Harrington is an expiring contract.

If Felton signs somewhere else, we’re screwed.

Looking at the worst case scenario we make the playoffs, lose our 1st round pick then have a 2010 rotation of:

PG: ??
SG: Jackson/Henderson
SF: Wallace
PF: ??/Hill
C: Chandler

We’d be stronger in 2009, but destoy ourselves for 2010 and beyond.

by James The Aussie on Dec 15, 2009 4:52 PM EST up reply actions

Not necessarily beyond...

The Cats would certainly have more money to throw at signing a PG and a PF with not salary to have to pay Diaw, Felton, Augustin or Harrington in 2010. Jordan Hill still has plenty of time to find his NBA groove, and if he really blossomed then the ’Cats might be the big winners in that trade scenario.

So you're banking on signing an FA without having any idea whether somebody worth a damn would come.

Seems like a pretty shortsighted strategy.

I advocated earlier the possibility of Hill for Augustin straight up based on potential.

Shedding Diaw for a rental of Harrington scares me though.

trade for t-mac possibly

i think we should trade for T-Mac simply because he is on the last year of his contract and that Houston is looking to get a big man, we could get rid of guys like Diop and please please get rid of Chandler, he is absolutely pathetic.

Granted, we do not need another guard in the team, getting T-Mac could then make someone else expendable, Stephen Jackson and Diaw as well actually. Also, Graham needs to go, so that Henderson can get some minutes, he is clearly head and shoulder above Graham. No wonder why Charlotte is a rookie killer.

SPEND MONEY IN THE OFF SEASON TO GET A HIGH QUALITY PLAYER!!!

by fireli90 on Dec 18, 2009 3:37 AM EST reply actions

How would getting a guard make our starting PF expendable?

Also, I have no idea why Houston would want to add salary to pick up inferior players as you’re suggesting.

On that part, Houston is willing to pick up some contracts, have you seen their player salaries? they are ridiculously for the production, if only we had the front office smart enough to do these things, however, i have long lost my confidence in the bobcats front office, several years ago, ever since the Adam Morrison pick.

haha, true true, i mean we got these pathetic player getting paid so much, i’m just sick of Diop and Chandler, why the hell did we make those trades anyways.

by fireli90 on Dec 19, 2009 3:53 AM EST up reply actions

If you've lost your confidence, fine...

But don’t let the Morrison pick be the problem. He was supposed to be exactly what we needed (a go-to scorer), and nobody thought he was going to miss as badly as he did. The fanbase here didn’t help him, but he proved he was pretty mentally weak. Combine that with a knee injury that wrecked what little athleticism he had, and he was an unfortunate case where they didn’t mess up, but he just didn’t work out.

no

some people did think he would flop and were extremely disappointed to see him selected over Brandon Roy.

+1

It’s clear in hindsight dudemanhey, but the VAST majority applauded the pick and called Morrison ‘a go to scorer for the next 10 years’.

Nobody knew Brandon Roy was going to be AS good as he was, if they did I doubt the T’Wolves would have traded him to get Randy Foye.

I also doubt if people knew how good Chris Paul or Deron Williams were going to be the Bucks wouldn’t have taken Andrew Bogut.

by James The Aussie on Dec 20, 2009 3:37 PM EST up reply actions

Roy was called “a more athletic Doug Christie.” Now that sounds like a guy to build a team around.

As for the Bucks, I think that move was about need as much as anything. They had a young (and relatively solid) Mo Williams at the point, but at center, they had started Dan Gadzuric for 81 games the year before. Yes. Dan. Gadzuric. Let that soak in a bit.

Morrison cried when Gonzaga lost in the NCAA tournament....'nough said.

Morrison is, was, and always will be as soft as a Krispy Kreme doughnut when the hot light is on! He could shoot yes. But so can I. We’re also both slow and white compared to most NBA talent. Morrison is 6’9", but he never looked like an NBA player to me. Just a media driven, great white hype. Remember, he did have cool hair? Yeah right. If AmMo would have cut that goofy do sooner he might could have gotten some where.

In his UW days, Brandon Roy always reminded me of Scottie Pippen. And an even “more athletic Doug Christie” actually sounds like just what the Cats needed at the time: an athletic, scoring SG to play with Felton, Wallace, & Okafor. ( I remeber Christie being pretty darn athletic as it was.)

I wasn’t on-line at the time, but i assure you that Roy was by far and away my first choice for the Bobcats that draft. I would even have taken Redick over Morrison! What a joke.

by dudemanhey on Dec 20, 2009 5:08 PM EST up reply actions

Yes, how dare a player care about his performance.

And you’re absolutely right. Doug Christie and his 11 PPG in his career is just the type of player we needed.

A difference in winners and losers

Losers are sad when they lose. Winners get mad when they lose.

Morrison is a loser.

by dudemanhey on Dec 20, 2009 5:49 PM EST up reply actions

So because one mistaken scout thought Roy was a more athletic DC, the Bobcats were correct in not drafting him?

Roy is better than Doug Christie. But they are BOTH a whole lot better than Adam Morrison.
Too bad the Bobcats passed on Roy. There should be no denying that fact.

by dudemanhey on Dec 20, 2009 5:53 PM EST up reply actions

It's certainly too bad.

But that doesn’t mean it would have been the right decision at the time. You don’t get three years of results before you draft.

i absolutely agree that we need a go to scorer, but scouts should have known that not all college scoring translates in the NBA, look at JJ Reddick that was drafted in the same year. i agree that the fan base didn’t exactly help them either.

to be honest, last year i thought for sure they were going to pick Brook Lopez……sigh….so did all the analysts…..
