Open Gameday Thread Charlotte Bobcats vs. Boston Celtics

Boston Celtics at Charlotte Bobcats, Dec 1, 2009 7:00 PM EST

TV: SportSouth | Radio: 1660 AM
SB Nation Celtics Blog: Celtics Blog

I parked the car in Harvard Yard.

Crash will cover Bird, our defensive ace on their best offensive player. Diaw matches up fairly well on McHale, since he can come out on the elbow jumper. Just be worried about what'll happen if he gets Boris too deep on the block. And Tyson can bang with Parish. In the back court, I'd rather have Felton on Johnson, because I'm more confident in his ability to hound him for the full court. Where we have an advantage is S-Jax on Ainge. As long as we can play Gerald and Jackson together on the wings, I don't think they have an answer for both of them. What are they gonna do? Use a scrub like Thirdkill for twenty minutes? Or a washout like Wedman?

having trouble with shots

we’re missing a lot of buckets here in the latter half of the 1st quarter. Can’t allow ourselves to get too far behind.

I always enjoy when we play LA or Boston. We usually have some decent games.

1st Quarter Shooting

We’re shooting 35% from the field. Definitely need to change this.

by Roger, Roger on Dec 1, 2009 7:37 PM EST reply actions

These are minutes Gerald Wallace could be playing. I swear, LB will take a guy out if he gets 2 fouls in the first quarter and not bring him back until there are 3 minutes to go in the half, but if a dude gets his second foul actually in the 2nd quarter, he’ll leave him in.

FACE. PALM.

Our best player is on the bench, unnecessarily. Bring him in until he gets his third foul.

Seriously, Wallace has played 5:31 in the first half. Utterly insane. YOU DON’T KNOW IF HE’S GOING TO COMMIT ANOTHER FOUL. And if he does, take him out until the second half. It’s. Not. That. Hard.

The good news is that even with our best player on the bench for most of the first half, we’re only 12 points down. Basketball’s a game of runs. Make a brief run, hold position for another back and forth, then make another brief run, and we’re right there with ’em.

I miss the old, humble Garnett. The one who would be firey on the floor, but without going overboard.

You know, the same Garnett who could never do anything when it came to the playoffs?

Then the Celtics buy a team and all of a sudden he’s the cockiest SOB in the league. It’s getting old.

I think that’s more good defense. The Celtics are exceptionally good at positioning and getting the refs to allow a rough game. Unless you beat them with their own methods, it’s kind of a magic trick to beat that kind of interior D.

Right now, I’m incensed at Larry Brown. If Wallace isn’t injured, and he didn’t look it when he went off the floor, there’s no reason he shouldn’t have been in the game for all this time. Diaw’s out there with 2 fouls. But no matter. He can stay and battle with Perkins and Garnett, I guess.

Gerald Wallace's third quarter: 12 minutes, 0 fouls

Which shows he should have been in the game in the second quarter. I mean seriously, what was LB thinking? Wallace is a smart veteran player and even if he did get his third foul in the second quarter, then you could bench him until the half. I just don’t understand, I guess.
