Gameday Preview at Washington Wizards

Pump Up Music: Jay-Z -- "Run This Town"

The Big Picture: The Washington Wizards have won two in a row, a one-point win over the 76ers and then last night over the Heat in Miami. Don't let that fool you, though. They're a team in disarray, still figuring out what works, much like the Bobcats.

Star-divide

I'm pretty sure they miss Mike Miller, out with a calf injury, but then again, I'm not totally sure. It's certainly possible that Gilbert Arenas can't co-exist with him, since both so desperately want the ball in their hands. With Miller out, maybe it clears things up for them. After all, Antawn Jamison has been their best offensive option, by far, and Caron Butler has totally fallen off a cliff. It's a good thing to have four good scoring options, but it's not a good thing to have four scoring options when at least one of them feels like he's getting the shaft, or is generally losing effectiveness because others are doing what he does.

Wasn't the whole point of starting DeShawn Stevenson and guys like Etan Thomas that they would be defensive presences alongside three scorers? Now, they've just got a bunch of offensively-minded guys. It's certainly possible they're better overall with the Outscore 'Em lineup, but their ceiling is limited if they can't stop anyone, and they're not getting the most out of Butler that way.

Key to Victory: Boris Diaw has been out of sorts the past few games, and he'll be charged with stopping Jamison. Ideally, part of that would involve making him work hard on the defensive end, and Diaw's best equipped to do that from the power forward spot. Gerald Wallace or Derrick Brown can post him up, but they won't be able to make him work on the block like Diaw can. On the other end, I'm worried that Diaw won't be able to deal with Jamison's variety of offense, from threes to putting it on the floor.

Detail That Might Interest .08% of You: Dominic McGuire started 57 games for the Wiz last year. This year? 49 minutes.

Off-season acquisitions

When the Wizards added Miler and Foye, there were a lot of people who thought they would return to their 4th/5th seed form. Miller is hurt now, but they weren’t that impressive with him in the lineup.

I STILL believe the Cats will not finish dead last in the division. I hope Charlotte wins tonight and dispels the myth that they are the weakest team in the division.

Hey, we've never finished last in the division so far.

At least one thing going for this team on a historical basis.

I have to disagree.

I’m right with you in saying the Wizards are a team in disarray, but to follow that with, “much like the Bobcats” negates every bit of progress the team has made in the past week since Jackson has joined us. We are no longer a team figuring out what to do. I believe we are a team that knows what to do and is still struggling with consistency. Our first 3 quarters against the Cavs and our horrifying 4th in that same game bear this out.

The key to the game tonight is going to be the matchup between Caron and Wallace. Caron has been specifically called out by his teammates this week and despite the “we’re making nice in the locker room” comments he’s made, the man has something to prove tonight. If Wallace isn’t too banged up from last night Caron is no match for him and Crash should own the dude tonight.

The Wizards tend to be a selfish group of players that focus so much on individual offense that coming up against a tenacious defense like the Bobcats display should be very frustrating for them. If the Felines show some savvy in the first half we should be able to exploit the Wizards problems on almost every level.

This is one of those games we should win handily. Normally I’d be concerned about the home/away back to back exhaustion rearing its head, but the Wizards are playing a back to back as well so fatigue should affect them in the late stages too. I’m expecting the 4th quarter to be pretty ugly to watch. Larry Brown’s usage of the bench of late should give us an edge in the fatigue sweepstakes however, because Washington has only been using 8 or 9 players per game and the starters are getting a lot of minutes.

I’m expecting a fairly easy Cats win tonight although I’m a little concerned because of our habit of falling apart the game after we upset a “contender” team like Cleveland.
If we play even close to the level we’ve displayed in the past 5 games however, Washington is in for a difficult and long evening.

Teams don't "learn what they're doing" after a week.

They’ve had a few good games. Certainly not enough to suggest they’ll be able to play that well the rest of the season.

nba.com

We keep getting stiffed on nba.com. The other day against the raptors…2 bobcats plays top 10 on sportscenter. zero on top 10 nba.com. Also, top 10 dunks of the week…0. I know after that raptors game we shouldve had at least two on there. Then top 10 plays last night, nba.com, 0. That baseline dunk Wallace had on Lebron shoudlve definitely been there.

Its probably not a big deal to most of you but I am unable to watch espn so I have to go to nba.com for all my highlights and it sucks. They usually dont have the highlights up until the next day.

...who cares?

The league’s official website does NOT have a vendetta against any of the league’s member teams. Also, if you are unable to watch ESPN, how do you know what the top 10 is?

Obviously not you because you arent a bobcats fan

and because you dont care about actual basketball. You care about recaps and stats. How are you gonna ask the question who cares about bobcats highlights and you say youre a fan. I know about the sportscenter top 10 because other people mentioned it on here if you must know douche.
Also, when i comment, its not to you so feel free never to respond.

by MR. MANN on Dec 3, 2009 2:28 PM EST up reply actions

If you watch the game, highlights on sportcenter don't matter.

They don’t change how good the team is or is playing.
Also, when you comment, I’ll feel free to respond whenever I want. It’s my prerogative. I also won’t use personal attacks and crude vulgarity to do so, as you seem to have decided is your best option. But hey, keep on keepin’ on, buddy. Fight the man at NBA.com. Start a petition. Write a letter to the webmaster. I’m sure you’ll get somewhere.

The only one whos ever used vulgarity is you

I will continue to call you a douche every time you say something against the Bobcats. This is a bobcats fan blog and its offensive to me that you talk shit about this team constantly. Calling you a douche is nothing compared to your comments.
Suck this. f yourself that. Ive never read anything vulgar except from you.

Ive got you figured out. You were always picked on growing up and youve figured out a way to instigate without getting your ass kicked. Good for you on your internet bullying. You respond to my comment “who cares” and then expect me not to say F U. Like others have said before me, youre pathetic. Suddenly youre acting all high and mighty like you never personally attack anyone and trying to put it on others because other people have mentioned the code of conduct now. Douche.

Really?

You’re going to “kick my ass?” Quite the treat on the internet, chief.

Just throwing this out there

Gerald Wallace tied for 3rd most double doubles this year with 9. Chris bosh leads with 14 and dwight howard with 11. What im surprised about though is how many Lebron has, 2! Also, Okafor has 6.

by MR. MANN on Nov 28, 2009 5:56 PM EST reply actions

I dunno...

If a guy’s shooting 56%+ from the field and three-point range, I probably don’t mind if he wants the ball. I will say, though, that Nick Young is a solid player and he should step in for Miller without a big overall dropoff.
