It's the last 3 minutes of the game and...
as is normally the case, the Bobcats have a chance to win it. You either clawed back from a double-digit deficit or you watched a lead you've nursed for the past 30 minutes or so dwindle away to nothing. You have your time outs and you're team is looking for leadership to bring home the win. What do you do... What do you do?
Okay, so it's tough to do a Dennis Hopper impersonation in a blogpost, but work with me here.
With only a couple of exceptions, the Bobcats have been in the hunt for the win in the closing minutes of most of their games this season but never really seem to finish up without walking off the court with yet another tally for the "L" column. A lot of things have been blamed for it:
1. Felton's ineptitude
2. Free Throw misses
3. The lack of a leader to take charge and close the win
4. Larry Brown's failure to (fill in the blank)
So let's examine this. We're losing a LOT of games in the last 3 minutes. The NBA axiom in these cases (especially when playing on the road) is that if you can hang tough (within 10 points or so) as the game enters that last several minutes you can use fouls, key matchups, or whatever the situation calls for to take the came at least SOME of the time.
What do our Cats need to do? It seems to me we're still in the game almost every night when it comes down to crunch time and we repeatedly get crunched. If you were running the show courtside, what would YOU be doing differently? Let's asssume you know what to expect in general - that you can't rely on our ability at the stripe to creep back in a free throw at a time with any regularity for example.
Would you try Henderson and throw him to the wolves? Would you mix the lineup to present fresher legs or just a different combination? I'd like the input of all the other armchair coaches, from generalities to specific set plays you might have drawn up for just such an emergency.

I'd mix it up
Ajinca would be in there
Henderson would be in there
Acie Law would be given a shot at point…
I still say start your 5 best and work out the size details…
Flip starting at point
Jax at SG
G Force at SF
Diaw at PF
Nazr at C
Bench…
well…
that is a crap shoot….
Felton/DJ at back up PG…
Henderson/Graham at backup SG
Graham/Brown at backup SF
Chandler/Brown/Ajinca at backup PF
Chandler/Ajinca/Diop at backup C
Everyone better be in Free throw school up to the next game…

Basically I'd do the same things you suggest.
I’d DEFINITELY be giving Henderson & Ajinca at least 5 minutes (usually at a time) every half. Neither player has looked so bad on the court that I would be scared to give them any PT.
At this point i’d probably only be giving Raymond & DJ about 10-12 minutes a game too. Raymond has shown flashes of doing what he seems capable of doing. I might try using him and Flip in alternate quarters. Maybe start Raymond and tell him to really try to get to the rim early to start each half, and bring Flip in to some scoring to finish the 1st half and be in in crunch time.
I would give Nazr more time. I haven’t looked up his PER, but he always seems to be effective when in the games so far this season.
One thing that the Bobcats should try to take advantage of is the fact that they have multiple players that have the ability to handle and dish the rock. In crunch time situations at the end of the game the Bobcats should already have identified which player has the best mismatch, and back their opponent down. Between Flip, Jax, Diaw, and Gerald Wallace (even Felton) they should be able to find at least one player every game that can beat their man and score – or force help, and find the open man for an uncontested shot.

You guys should play Law
He showed us over here that he has got skill. He can play the 1 or 2 and you guys can use his ball movement and scoring
Rookie: "Why did you bench me?"
Nellie: "You're a rookie"

Won't happen....
if the first round raft pick doesn’t get minutes, a young player who was thrown in as trade fluff isn’t going to get a legit shot either. OR wait……maybe Larry Brown will defy my wishes again and play Law, while telling Henderson to clean the team bus while the game is played.

You can use him as a 10 minute energy player
Felton is taking Henderson’s minutes away and is playing far too much.

I hear Gerald
Can make a mean pre-game meal…
seriously…
As bad as the team is showing thus far…I’d be starting any como of players…looking for any combination that puts points on the board…and don’t give me that only x games into the season bull sh*t
We need to do something and do it fast…
Here’s a starting 5 to see what might happen
Law
Henderson
G Force
Nazr
Ajinca Or Diaw
That’s right I’m giving up on DJ and Felton. At this point they can go on a soul searching retreat in December and see if they can find themselves, find their shot, find some assists, or find new jobs. Maybe they could go to som business leadership/management workshops to learn how to be a good leader…

actually
a smart starting 5 would be:
Flip with Law at backup
Jackson with Henderson at backup
G Wallace with Derrick Brown at backup
Diaw with Ajinca at backup
Nazr with ? at backup (Chandler or Diop…pick your poison)

Untie Felton's shoes
That way if he gets the ball, he’ll trip over his shoelaces and thus the ball will be more likely to go in the basket than his normal shots.

I plan on going to a game this season....
and throwing bananas at Felton to accomplish the same goal.
