Open Gameday Thread vs New Jersey Nets

New Jersey Nets at Charlotte Bobcats, Nov 2, 2009 7:00 PM EST

TV: Fox Sports Carolinas | Radio: 610 AM

In case you missed it earlier, Raja Bell will start tonight, per Rick Bonnell.

Also, a tip o' the cap to Bill Walton, who has to retire due to health issues. Here's a fantastic clip of Walton rambling on, ostensibly about Amar'e Stoudemire.

Random Thoughts

Watch out for Lee and Williams, they really feed off of each other and compliment each other well. Williams reminds me of a younger Gerald Wallace with better passing ability, while Lee sometimes looks like Ray Allen

If the Cats cant stop Lopez, they wont win

Jerseys bench is stronger than you may think. CDR can light it up and guys like Alston and Boone arent deserve more credit than they get

Kyle Weaver

He actually showed himself to be a decent back-end-of-the-rotation guard there last year (5-2-2 in 20 MPG, actually earning 19 starts.) But he was godawful here.

However, it’s important not to recognize that. As you should know by posting here on RoF, criticism of any player whose name doesn’t start in ‘O’ and end in ‘kafor’ or the team at large means you’re “not a fan.”

I’m in the upper deck right now. (YAY WI-FI!)

The Official Roommate of Rufus on Fire (and a Nets fan) says: “I thought we were here to see a pro game. This looks like a mid-tier CAA matchup.”

The Official Neighbor of Rufus on Fire (a Chinese dude who’s a huge Yi fan, and a Heat fan) says: “This team was way more exciting when Jason Richardson was here.”

We’re having tons of fun cracking jokes about Bobby Simmons’s contract, Josh Boone’s free throws, and Larry Brown’s refusal to play Gerald Henderson even when Raja got into foul trouble and VladRad was losing his mind. Henderson did get a nice hand when he got in the game and made a couple nice defensive plays when he was in.

Seriously, though, both teams’ offenses are horrific. When the Nets go to zone, the Cats have no way of breaking it down because they don’t have enough true shooters to simply shoot over it and they don’t seem to have enough confidence in moving the ball crisply through five pairs of hands.

Also, Terrence Williams looks like a player.

Remember when the Panthers had a good offensive line? Yeah, me too.
--Darin Gantt

by MichaelProcton on Nov 2, 2009 8:18 PM EST up reply actions

There's always hope?

We’re only a few games into this season and there are only five, maybe six teams that legitimately have a chance to win a championship. How does that equate to always having hope?

Another thing…in the last ten years prior to this year, there have been eight different world series champions and only five different NBA teams to win the championship.

by Stevarino on Nov 2, 2009 8:29 PM EST up reply actions

Hope is about more than winning championships.

It’s about believing your team can getting into the playoffs beyond the first month of the season. When’s the last time the Royals had that? Or the Orioles? The Nats/Expos? The Reds? Blue Jays? I can go on and on. The results of the playoffs are a crapshoot, particularly when MLB’s five-game DS format systematically limits the ability of excellent regular season teams to use the depth of their rotation. Getting there, on the other hand, over the course of 80+ games, is an entirely different matter.

Remember when the Panthers had a good offensive line? Yeah, me too.

Let's not get down on the front office too much. They have EXTENSIVE on the job training...

Their NBA live teams almost ALWAYS make the playoffs!

He's produced a lot more than Chokafor ever could...

not including the 18 points he’s averaging this year.

Playing with Gerald Henderson and Wallace on the wings.

That team could run.

Might as well try a quarter of running people out of the building....

rather than letting Ray Ray run the shot clock down and score a total of 7 points.

Nice effort, Ray Ray...

When do we stop referring to these as “rough turnover nights?” They’re pretty much what he always does.

Felton...

I think leads the league in TO’s per game

by Stevarino on Nov 2, 2009 9:29 PM EST up reply actions

BUT HE'S ALWAYS IN THE TOP 15 IN ASSISTS!

(kindly ignore that he’s always in the top 5 in minutes)

Actually

he’s 2nd in TO’s per game behind Westbrook

Well that's not so bad, then.

LOL.

Awesome Wallace

what a game man, what a game for Wallace.

I thought this team was going to run more

Before the season started, I heard so much about how this team is way more athletic and they would run more and get out on the break. Really? What happened with that because now they look even slower and more stagnant on offense.

And I’m sick of the ball getting stuck with Felton and he dribbles around for 19 seconds once he gets over half court and then throws up a 24-footer or pass it to another player so they can throw up a 24-footer before the shot clock runs out.

On 69% shooting.

Not bad for a guy with no offensive game. And he was also blocked just once. Chandler had it shoved back in his face three times tonight.
