Gameday Preview at Philadelphia 76ers
Pump Up Music: Fugazi -- "Waiting Room"
The Big Picture: The Philadelphia 76ers have been stumbling in the early going. Their four wins have come against New York, Milwaukee, and New Jersey twice, so take that as you will.
Philly made a crazy run in the back half of last season, after dumping Maurice Cheeks for Tony DiLeo and embracing smallball. More to the point, their team embraced Andre Iguodala's style instead of trying to figure out how to make everyone else play Elton Brand's style. Brand's game has suffered in the aftermath, but it's probably for the best that the Sixers go this direction, given the other players on hand, and if Brand's going to be an All Star again he'll have to do it elsewhere.
Key to Victory: Andre Iguodala is in the Brandon Roy category of Secret Superstar. Yes, everyone knows he's super athletic and can do just about anything on the court, but would you be surprised to hear he's considered an elite defender? In last season's adjusted +/-, Iggy was right there with Chris Paul, Ray Allen, and Rashard Lewis in the top ten in the league, and while he's a good scorer, a lot of that was tied up in his defense.
Iguodala will mostly play against Stephen Jackson and Gerald Wallace, which is good for us, since those guys have the length and quickness to deal with his offense. Unfortunately, those two guys are also key offensive players for us, and we can expect AI2 to slow them down, if not shut them down.
Detail That Might Interest .08% of You: Jrue Holiday's name is spelled with a J because his family was naming all the kids with Js, but he was the last sibling with a J name.

Dalembert
I read the Sixers offered Dalembert for Vlad Rad and Bell. I am glad the Cats didn’t make that trade. Charlotte has a good chance at picking up a victory tonight. I really hope they play like they did against Orlando

why? tyson chandler averages A WHOLE 2 pts more than he does fouls!
Gerald Wallace is the best player the Bobcats will have..... EVER
haha..I knew I was dreaming when I typed that...
but regardless I don’t think Chandler will last at the rate he is going…seems like LB is already frustrated with him…hopefully one of the contender will need a big man before the trade deadline and we can dump either Diop or Chandler for an expiring contract or for someone with an upside
Somebody was making the comparison recently.
And we could have gotten Dalembert, who’s no worse offensively or as a rebounder, and is probably a better defender for far less than Okafor.

It could happen
But there are two problems.
1. Chandler’s stats this season versus
2. His unreasonably large paycheck and contract duration
It would be all upside for us though. Heck, we could convince Kareem to come out of retirement for the rest of the season at league minimum and have a HUGE chunk of our cap problem solved. We’d likely not lose much on either offense OR defense either.
So how about it NBA? Anyone want a starting center free of charge? We’d like to keep him in the Eastern Conference, if not in out division so we can get a couple of more wins this season, but hey, beggers can’t be choosers.

a win in Philly
With injuries slowing them down and multiple trade rumors involving Dalembert flying around everywhere from Charlotte to California to cloud morale, the Sixers are ripe for the picking tonight. But there’s even more good news.
The Sixers blogs and news articles are full of rampant complaints that the team is hapless on defense – particularly against covering the passing lanes. This news couldn’t come at a better time for the Cats We should be able to really exploit this weakness with our new-found ability to spread the floor a bit and rotate to the weak side that Jackson brings to us. I expect us to score a lot of points inside tonight. Also, the Sixers have a tendency to get frustrated in the face of stingy defense so if the Bobcats play to their defensive norm, we may see quite a few turnovers from Philly in the second half.
This is a road game that the Bobcats should win with some ease. I’ve been optimistic in the preview comments against some pretty good teams thus far, but Philly is a team in serious trouble. If we lose tonight, I might just have to move closer to agreeing with MIchael Procton in his forecast of doom for the Bobcats this season.
Who said anything about doom?
I just said we’re not making the playoffs. We should be at about 35 wins, right around this franchise’s best. Everybody was pretty satisfied with that last year, when Larry Brown worked the most magical and successful moves of his coaching career.

Cats get the win tonight (think)
This is going to be very telling of how the rest of the season looks. Now that Jackson’s had a couple of days to intergrate into the lineup we should see how Brown intends to utlize him.
Sixers are having some issues right now with the Dalembert rumors and word that Elton Brand might be benched, so this is the right time to pick up a win.

this could be a telling game
show how they play against another bad team
Gerald Wallace is the best player the Bobcats will have..... EVER
Wow...
Took all of one play and ten seconds for them to flip that "turnover—>easy basket script.

Well, the pace has certainly increased.
Philly fans must like having a big man who actually knows how to put it on the floor (I’m looking at you, Ty.)

Man, Elton Brand sucks.
6 minutes, 6 points, 4 rebounds. Nice “elite-level” defense, Tyson.

Too bad this team doesn't have more "fans"...
Elsewise, there’d be more people watching this game and in the live thread.

I’m just not as much a fan of live threads for basketball.

I can’t even find a link to the game online that isn’t just audio. I guess it must be a blackout game.

Nice D, Ray Ray.
Faceguarding≠fouling the guy.
And cute excuse, Tyson. A scratch is enough to get treatment?

Whoop dee fuckin' doo.
If I make three FTs in a row, does that mean I’ll never miss?

I seriously doubt that YOU could hit 3 FTs in a row, Procto
Not a twerp like you, maybe on NBA live for xbox
Suck my dick, you stupid piece of shit.
I’ll knock down ten in a row before you can get your second.

Hmm...
Maybe this Jackson thing will work out after all if he holds the ball and only gives Felton the ball when he’s wide open.

It seems the rumors of Mr. Brand's demise are overstated...
Or, well, he’s able to look good when he’s going against Chandler and Diaw in the paint. Go ELITE DEFENSE from the center position!

--Darin Gantt
Haha...
Tyson can do “everything right” all he wants. He still can’t make a basket that’s not a wide-open dunk.
